4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Head seems to last an eternity. Big yeast and lemon aroma - perhaps the best yeast scent I have come across yet. Well balanced Brettiness, sharp lemon citrus, and breadiness in the flavor. Glad I finally got a bottle of this legendary brew.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
One of the best things I have tried recently, theres an explosion of flavours and aromas involved with this one! It is very lively so care must be took when pouring, otherwise the head will end up all over your newly washed carpet. The aroma is funky brett. Taste is a herby, slightly spicy and characteristically brett! Could drink several of these throughout the course of a day.

Spicy herbal aroma, with a bread yeast kick. Flavour is so complex for its abv, , sweet, sour, dry hops . World class beer .

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from Beer Gonzo, Coventry. Aroma of some citrus, banana, raisins. Hoppy aroma for a Belgian ale. Taste is clean, fresh citrus with some banana, orange. Decent bitter finish. Very nice stuff this. Easy going stuff for the strength.

3.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
This is a fairly strong ale (6.9%), it has a light color and is pretty milky. It throws a mean head, no matter how gently you pour. The first thing I noticed was the citrus/fruity aroma. Not a bad smell, but not what I had anticipated.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Rich and filling beer with lots of flavors. The bitter tartness on the finish takes over too much and the mouthfeel is a bit too foamy. A classic brew but not for all tastes.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
330ml bottle served in a chalice.
A: Beautiful bottle and art. Pours a hazy amber to chestnut color, firming a huge yellow to beige head that dissipates slowly leaving many lacings around. A small layer persists and some particles can be seen floating around
S: Sweet, malty and "biscuity". Fruity (reminded me pears and apples). Acid (orange zest). Fresh and grassy hops and the traditional Belgium yeasts the end
T: Distinct and complex as the nose. Sweet caramel upfront but very dry, in overall, bit acid and quite bitter end. Caramel malts. White grapes, apples, notes of wood, nuts, yeasts and finally the hops
M: Medium body and high carbonation. Dry and bitter aftertaste
O: Excellent drinkability. A classic and, at the same time, distinct Belgium Trappist. Mandatory to any beer lover.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
330 ml bowling pin bottle. Cloudy amber orange color. Big rocky beige head.aroma is redolent of Brettanomyces yeast. Earthy barnyard notes, as expected. Flavor upfront is tart and bready with dry acidic notes. Finish is dry and light spicy hops. A world class ale. Very simple and wonderfully complex. Salt of the earth. This was the first Belgian beer I ever tasted back in the late 1970’s. I remember that it was so uniquely different and intriguing. It started me on a journey to explore the many different beer styles that were so unfamiliar to me then. Orval holds a special place in my memory and heart. It still tastes the same now as I remember it did back then.
