Commercial Description:
In contrast to all the others, the Orval Trappist brewery makes only one beer for the general public. It has an intensely aromatic and dry character. Between the first and second fermentations there is also an additional dry-hopping process. Through this the beer acquires its pronounced hoppy aroma and extra dry taste.
Bottled at 5.2% abv - can go up as high as 7.2%

Bottle. Hazy amber colour with a nice lasting head. Great aroma of hops and some sourness. Just amazing flavour! Delightful touch of hops and sweetness. Bustling mouthfeel. Nice long lasting aftertaste. Best if the beer has lagered some years. I have tried several years and the best was a 1996 tasted at Christmas 2005. Great, greater greatest!

Creamy, lasting head. Aroma: hops and grapefruit. Taste: a bit tart, citrus and hops. A long, bitter finish. A very good and complex beer, but I prefer them a bit less bitter. Re-rate: Flowery hoppiness in the aroma. Strong oily hoppiness in the flavor. Citric and tart, vanilla. Long citric hopbitter finish. I have to boost my rating, because this is truly a great beer. tasted july 2008, 1986 bottle. Still lively in the bottle. Honey and plastic in the aroma. Still some reamining hops in the flavor, citrus and leather. Has become thin and tart. Past its peak, but still a very special beer. (8 3 6 3 13 = 3.3)

A Mes rate: It’s totally a love or hate thing. Personally I think it’s fantastic. Magnificent slightly cloudy orange looks, the most orange coloured beer I have seen. Aroma is glorious; fruits and hops and lavender and something like baby sick but dont let that put you off. The palate is as good as anything I have tried. Simply prefect. Velvety and creamy with just the right amount of carbonation. The taste is all over the place, almost too much but just as you think that it mellows into something very refined and wonderfully complex. Zing zing citrus and fruity! Slightly sour and just a touch of alcohol. Never offensive but very strange stuff. I really do think it is an aquired taste. I hated the first bottle I had. But now my orval glass has seen much use. Really I don’t have the vocabulary to do this justice. Wonderful stuff. If you don’t like it drink some more!

Muddy orange with yeast coming down the sides of the bottle. Head is thin and white, but it stays for quite some time. Very aromatic with banana, oranges and yeast. Quite high carbonated for the style - lots of bubbles. Taste is dry and slightly peppery with another bout of oranges. Fills up your mouth pretty well.

Based on bottled version: Pours a lightly hazy amber body with a thick white head. Flavor of light brett sourness, mild hops, citrus, caramel, and spices.

Poured a hazy amber with an averaged sized off white head. Strong fruity smells with some spices and citris. Bready/yeasty taste with oranges and bananas. Highly carbonated with a dry finish. I really enjoy this beer - this is one I always have in stock at home.

11oz bottle-pours a big foamy to rocky off white head and cloudy gold color. Aroma is apple, cinnamon, spices, perfumy. Taste is peppermint, herbs, grain, dry, yeasty, perfumy. Interesting. Good effervescence. Nice for lots of herbal. Occasional.
