3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Finally went ahead and tried this one. Split a bottle with barleyPops. Dark golden yellow pour, big white head. Yeasty, estery aroma. Plenty of fruity notes. Flavor was similar with some subtle hop notes and sourness coming through as well. Good, but not something Iíll drink very often.

Iíve never rated orval, thatís weird. Tastes like orval. Itís great, if youíre reading reviews to consider buying orval, youíre in trouble.

2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20
Lichtbruin troebel bier met veel schuim wat mooi blijft staan. Daarmee is ook alles gezegd. Smaak is iets zuur en apart, citroen en muffig. Ik blijf dit een bijzonder bier vinden wat niet bij me past.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from Cornelius (bottled on 24/03/2015). Hazy copper, big fluffy off-white head that gently collapses down to crags. Yeast, dry grass, dried stoned fruit (cherry, prune?). Medium body, initially quite sprightly fizz that fades a little. Some booze, malts, farmhouse hops and light bitter finish. Caramel sweetness and slightly oily. I can see why people get excited.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Not quite sure why this gets such a high rating. Itís good but it ainít that good. Rich hazy amber almost orange in colour. Much more bitter than the average Belgian ale with a hoppy spiciness that disguises its strength - in fact 6.2% is rather humdrum in its native land but thatís hardly a criticism. I like it but Atletico Bilbao rather than Barcelona for me.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a dense hazy copper brown with white frothy/rocky head. The head never really settles. The nose is very classic and at the same time truely unique. Yeasty, barn qualities, fermenting hay and mineral, brown plum. The taste is refreshing with mineral, yeasty fruit. Unripe hops delivers bitterness and ballance. A slight sour note is detectable in older expressions and this can bring further complexity. The aftertaste is slightly malty, slightly yeasty, farmy and finishes in a refreshingly bitter way. Iím glad I live in world where there is Orval. Please donít change.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Mocno zbita, drobna piana. W aromacie czuć intensywną dzikość, końska dera, te klimaty. Leciutko czuć owocowe, chmielowo-estrowe akcenty. W smaku wytrawne, ściągające, sugerujące kwas, ktůry jednak nigdy nie nadchodzi. Nasycenie wysokie. Dziki aftertaste, ktůry nie każdemu przypadnie do gustu. Definicja słowa "funky".

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
330 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 4/15/2013. Pours slightly hazy orange/amber color with a 2-3 finger foamy and fluffy off white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice dense soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a large amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of big lemon, pineapple, cherry, pear, apple, white grape, hay, straw, pepper, grass, toasted biscuit, musty funk, light leather, and herbal/yeast earthiness. Fantastic aromas with great complexity and balance of fruity/funky/spicy yeast, earthy hops, and moderate bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big lemon, pineapple, cherry, pear, apple, white grape, hay, straw, pepper, grass, toasted biscuit, musty funk, light leather, and herbal/yeast earthiness. Good amount of yeast spiciness and earthy hop bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, pineapple, cherry, pear, apple, white grape, hay, straw, pepper, toasted biscuit, and herbal/yeast earthiness on the finish for a short bit. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/spicy yeast, earthy hops, and moderate bready malt flavors; with a great malt/spiciness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Moderate dryness after the finish from the carbonation. High carbonation and medium bodied; with a very smooth, crisp, fairly creamy/bready, and lightly prickly mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an absolutely incredible Belgian Trappist ale. All around fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/spicy yeast, earthy hops, and moderate bready malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink for the ABV. A highly amazing offering all around. I feel this is at itís best right around the 3 year mark, and this one was getting near to that age.
