In contrast to all the others, the Orval Trappist brewery makes only one beer for the general public. It has an intensely aromatic and dry character. Between the first and second fermentations there is also an additional dry-hopping process. Through this the beer acquires its pronounced hoppy aroma and extra dry taste.

Bottled in 2010. Pours a hazy reddish-orange with a giant head that dissipates slowly into a cap. Yeast is visible floating around in the beer. Dark fruits dominate the nose. Plumb, cherry, grape, it’s like holding a glass of brandy. Taste is sour more than anything. Sweet and yeasty, even has a bit of a hop bite. Big, slow sipper, even with the alcohol content being what it is. Unusual beer, more reminiscent of a lambic than other trappist beers I’ve had.

Bottle to tulip. Pours clouded copper, creamy beige head. Aroma of citrus, bread, caramel, clove, banana. Taste of same with added spice and orange marmalade. Highly effervescent. Dry finish with green apple.

33cl bottle, pours a cloudy orange/brown with very persistent frothy head. Aroma of cloves and yeast and slight citrus. Taste similar to aroma, dry, bitter with slightly sour finish. A great example of a Belgian trappist ale

Bottle at home from Freshfields in Croydon. Pours hazy dark orange with impressive white head that dissipates quickly. Aroma of orange peel, herbs and a little fink. Tastes of coriander, orange with a hint of funk. Really nice.

Mooi oranje trappistenbier met flinke schuimkraag. Licht zuurtje, veel hop. Mooie balans, redelijk dun. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

How could such a masterpiece have such a low rating. Any official Trappist should start at 4.5 and move up. Pours cloudy with a very thick foamy head, beautiful aroma of sweet flowers, essence and love. Great beer but not at the top on the Trappist list for me. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

L: a deep orange, hazy, a big two fingers of fluffy white head. S: a big acidic vinious white wine note coupled with yeast, citrus, grass. Slightly funky, big and bright, orange, light spice. T: delicious, sour citrus, orange marmalade, bready, a little champagne grape sweetness. I get different things at different stages. A sweet umeshu note, slightly boozy, hits my nose and palate. There’s malt, Belgian yeast, brett. So complex. F: effervescent, bubbles dancing on the tongue, and a fluffiness that really fills the mouth. That stays, and the malt drags back down the throat, leaving you with a fluffy tongue. It finishes really dry. O: Classic, wonderful Belgian pale. I get a new experience each time I try it.

Trappista insolita, segnata dai luppoli, complessa e secca al massimo grado. Inconfondibile e di carattere.
