COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In contrast to all the others, the Orval Trappist brewery makes only one beer for the general public. It has an intensely aromatic and dry character. Between the first and second fermentations there is also an additional dry-hopping process. Through this the beer acquires its pronounced hoppy aroma and extra dry taste.

Great smelling beer. Didn’t quite have the depth of flavor I’ve come to expect in a Belgian Ale but that doesn’t change the fact that this beer is quite tasty and far more casually drinkable than any other Belgian ale I’ve had before.

Probada en botella . De color naranja nublado y olor picante persistente. Al principio el sabor ácido cítrico combinado con algo de pimienta y ligeramente amarga . Cuerpo medio y baja percepción del alcohol . Cerveza para disfrutar

I had the one year aged version. Very fruity aromas and flavors of peaches, plums, grapes and spices. Slightly bitter/tart finish and the body is not quite spritzy but not creamy either; somewhere in between I guess. This beer certainly lived up to the hype.

Une bière unique, aussi belle à regarder que bonne à déguster! Mousse délicate, fine et douce, des arômes complexes, houblon doucement citronné, herbe sèche, mie de pain blanc...33 cl de bonheur!

in contrast to all the other reviews i was a bit unimpressed with this to be honest, anyway heres my review: smells of seaweed, hazy golden amber colour, no head, very yeasty and malty. have heard this is better after being laid down a couple of years.

Hazy brown color with a HUGE off-white head. Beautiful aroma of brettanomyces, wild flowers, asphalt and mango. Mild sour flavour with a surprisingly bitter finish. Very complex on the palate, wonderful bretty accents, notes of coriander, citrus fruits, chocolate, white bread. Truly one of the best beers I’ve ever had!!

Hazy orange body with a thick white head that lasts. Aroma is citrus, hops, some bret character. Taste is sweet with some spice and a light hoppy bitterness. Bitter finish, medium body. Good but not as good as I expected.

Bottle from Stockmann in Tallinn (€ 4,45). My first Orval - not sure why I’ve restrained myself from trying it before... Bottled 7 months ago on 31.03.2014; BB 31.03.2019. Pours... all foam! Massive, white with a creamy hue, frothy, thick, leaving very dense lacing... and beneath that a liquid starts to show that’s hazy dark orange amber. Nose is bubblegum, cinnamon biscuits and earthy hops, pickled autumn fruits, cidery acidity. If I let it sit still for a few minutes, the acidity will burn my nostrils. Taste is surprisingly bitter with lemon zest and earthy notes most apparent, also moderately sour, and malty with low sweetness, yet caramelly, and has that British cinnamon biscuit note to it. It thickens as it warms, acquiring more dense, autumny flavours including plums or dark cherries. Finish is sharp bitterness somewhere way back in the throat, whereas in the mouth it’s more grainy and malty with a white wine acidic character. Light to medium, almost watery body (though thickening as it warms) is accompanied by flat carbonation and a cidery, slightly grainy dry palate.

I’m not being original by saying this is an exeptional brew - probably the most complex beer I’ve tasted yet - even if I cannot consider myself a fan of some of its aspects considering the palate, especially the finish. Will definitely try more and less fresh versions to give it a better verdict.

Bone dry with huge carbonated head, lovely tan to orange colour. Flavour is Brett followed with Belgian yeast spice. The final is a slight bitter follow through. Nice summer ale.

Bottle. Pours hazy orange with thick foamy white head. Aroma is very Brett, tropical fruits, mango, sweet oranges, citrus. Taste is a touch wild, very carbonated, dry, crisp. Pretty good.
