COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In contrast to all the others, the Orval Trappist brewery makes only one beer for the general public. It has an intensely aromatic and dry character. Between the first and second fermentations there is also an additional dry-hopping process. Through this the beer acquires its pronounced hoppy aroma and extra dry taste.
Bottled at 5.2% abv - can go up as high as 7.2%

Bottle, pours pristine copper with sparse, rocky, ivory head, aroma is asserive blend of funk, dank, some herbal esters, really incredible, flavor profile is crisp, round, and delicious, effervescent carbonation and just a bit of pithy bitterness. An absolutely outstanding beer.

This one has always been one of my favourites, but for some reason I haven’t had one in years, untill now. A beautfiful amber coloured beer with a frothy off-white head. Very nice aroma, herbs, caramel, fruits. Taste is very well balanced, light caramel sweetness and fruits. Finishes medium bitter. Medium body, refreshing carbonation. I might make a habit of drinking Orval on a regular basis again.

A classic Belgian style Trappist. Hoppy and not too strong. Delicious aroma. A bit of an acquired taste probably. One of my all time favorites.

Reviewed from notes. This was poured into a chalice. The appearance was a nice hazy golden orange to light brown color with tints of yellow roaming around the sides of the glass. There’s a one finger white foamy head that dissipated within about a minute leaving some light lacing here and there. The smell had a nice blend of sweet citrus to spices of cinnamon, ginger, allspice and clove. The taste was spicy sweet through the previously mentioned flavors. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. The carbonation was somewhat sharp but not overbearing. Nice spiciness rolled over my tongue. Overall, I say this was a pretty good Belgian pale ale worthy of having again.

Bottled 01/02/2011, pours a dark amber with a retensive creamy head. Looks appetizing. Chocolate, cream, candi sirup, old apple; a soft but distinct aroma. Medium to full body (hey, this is a 6,2abv trappist) which is amazing. Soft and potent, aged in ideal situations, brings out an aging that rewards the patient with a creamy Orval from another - more tasteful - dimension.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Beer & Beyond, Tel Aviv. Hazy amber with medium beige head. Aroma is yeasty, cheese, skunky and sweaty - but in a good way - banana, fruity. Flavor is as the nose - rich and complex, yeasty, skunky, light hoppy bitterness, notes of banana, spicy, light sourness. Full body, dry. Lively carbonation. Bitter aftertaste. Excellent.
