COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In contrast to all the others, the Orval Trappist brewery makes only one beer for the general public. It has an intensely aromatic and dry character. Between the first and second fermentations there is also an additional dry-hopping process. Through this the beer acquires its pronounced hoppy aroma and extra dry taste.

UPDATED: AUG 2, 2011 Bottle. Poured a murky amber with some orange undertones and a huge white foamy head that was mostly diminishing but had fantastic lacing. The aroma was heavy of a straw like malt, a moderate floral hop and a moldy scented yeast with notes of dried fruit (raisins), a hint of spice and some citrus (lemon and maybe orange) with a mild alcohol tinge. It tasted a malty, a little bitter and slightly sour with a hint of a peppery spice in the beginning and finished lightly bitter and yeasty with notes of fruit, citrus and a slight alcohol tinge at the end. The flavor was left to linger for a while, leaving a light sourness on the palate. Mouthfeel was light to medium in body and a little oily in texture with the carbonation being quite pronounced, almost prickly in feel. Overall a fantastic Trappist Ale, I can see now why the Monks only brew this one beer.

Gorgeous rose amber colour with a lively white frothy head. Aroma of smokey orange malt with . Well balanced flavours of sour bitterness and dry roasted nuts. The more recent bottles , as I have been drinking it for 20 years, seem to have more sweet malt and less sourness or it could be my age.

Bärnsten med ett rejält vitt skum. Jäst i doft. Tunn smak tyvärr är detta inte min grej. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Spora, gruba i nietrwała piana, o dziwo zdobi szkło, barwa ciemno bursztynowa, lekko mętna, piwo ładnie pracuje w szkle. Zapach przede wszystkim dziki, nieco kwaskowy, stajenny, nasuwający skojarzenie z końską skórzaną używaną uprzężą a z drugiej strony estry owocowe (czerwona porzeczka i morele) i lekkie fenole (czerwony pieprz, może ta szałwia właśnie). Nietypowe piwo trapistów - dość agresywne w odbiorze, wyraźnie odczuwalna dzikość, solidna goryczka, subtelnie wiążące to wszystko kandyzowane owoce, rodzynki i suszone gruszki... Mimo to trunek jest zaskakująco pijalny, ułożony i smaczny.

Bottle from Beermoth, Manchester, Ł2.90. Decided to see if it’s all it’s cracked up to be and I’m not disappointed (although I am quite a harsh marker). Cloudy, dirty amber beer with extremely frothy white head which starts at 40% of the glass. Really pleasant, subtle but busy aroma. Cherries, orange, tart jellied fruits, pine and even lavender in the nose. Taste is super dry and well balanced and certainly pleasantly delicate for a beer of its strength. Smooth on the palate too. Ticks a lot of boxes.

Enough foam to keep the battleship afloat. Cloudy caramel hue, lively effervescence. Melodic honey, autumn fruits and hop scents straight from uncapping. Earthy flavors. Not bitter, not sweet with excellent balance and no real aftertaste. Refreshing in mouth without noticeable alcohol presence despite the 6.9% ABV.
