3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Can at Oskar Blues in Brevard. Interesting beer here. I kind of liked it. Fairly smokey with a light citrus and pine note. Pretty easy drinking if not super complex.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Can - Light citrus, orange and lemon. Clear gold with a big beige head. Grapefruit, orange and light smoke. I don’t understand this and find it a bit gimmicky.

Can with label at RBWG - Oskar Blues brewery stop. Thanks decaturstevo for the share. Pours orange with white head. Nose and taste of smoked orange, smoked caramel malt and smoked citrus. Medium body. Interesting and nice beer.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Can at the Brevard brewery for 2014 RBWG. This was an odd one. Smell was a bit smokey, with notes of firewood, bandaid, and then some typical IPA notes of pine and citrus. Flavor seemed a bit more IPA forward, with the smokiness in the background. Also, the medicinal, plastic notes that I got in the aroma were gone. Unique beer.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pint at Orenco Taphouse. Pours a clear copper color with a medium white head. The aroma is only light smoke, fruit, apricot. Some dry dusty smoked malt, the dominate flavor though is certainly fruity hops, medium bitterness. Quite smooth, I liked it.

1.7 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 5/20
Draft at Gossport Tavern. Golden draft with a firm, big head. You can pretty much sum this up with "yep, it’s a hoppy rauchbier." Both aspects are delivered admirably, but this doesn’t scratch any itch of mine. To me, the two don’t go together. (#5416, 1/2014)

Drinking this delicious brew at the Birch in Norfolk VA. Aroma has a slight smoke to it, ..taste it and WOW! , being an IPA, this beer had a smooth finish. Yes it’s Smokey, but the hop doesn’t stick around. Love this. Cheers!

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap at Y-not, Chesapeake, VA. Dark orange pour with a frothy off-white head. Bright aroma of tangerine, pineapple, and pine. The flavor contains the citrusy hops expected from the aroma but is quickly undercut by peat, smoke, and toffee. Some bitterness from the hops lingers. Interesting and better than you would have expected a smoked IPA to be.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Tap @ The BeerMongers... Poured hazy, amber with a moderate head. Aroma of pungent hops with some char and smoke. Nice drinking IPA bitterness and citrus and earthiness along with a good smoked character. Complex yet balanced on not too heavy leaning in either direction. Lingering smokiness in the finish.
