What did oSKAr the G’Rauch say to the face? Slap! Aromas of freshly-peeled orange and apricots with a touch of……..smoke? Juicy citrus and fruit flavors dominate but don’t overpower the slightly sweet malt structure. Finish is all citrus rind ping-ponging with some smoky phenols

Tap. Burnt light copper with a thin white head. Smokey for sure, but fruity, touch of bacon but unfortunate bandaid comes in. Decently bitter with a more liquid smoke flavor. Touch thin in the body. Eh.

Draft at Proof. Hazy orange pour with a bubbly white head. Citrus hop, caramel malt aroma with a hint of smoke. Flavor is sweet malt up front with citrusy hops mid palate ending with a smoky kick. Not bad, very approachable smoked style beer.

Pours a slightly hazy golden orange on tap with thin white head and light lacing. Aroma of citrus and smoke, slight bready grain. Taste is heavy smoke, fades to orange, not overpowering. Solid collaboration.

On tap at Petrol Station. Pours a cloudy orange with small frothy white head leaving sticky lacing. The aroma is citrus and faint smoke. Medium mouthfeel with a strong smoke and light citrus with nice dry finish.

From notes. Nice surprise to see this on tap at Dutch’s; any Oskar Blues outside the canned beers is a nice surprise to me. Gravy. Pours a cloudy orange-gold color with a small off-white head that leaves some lace in the glass. Aroma of spicy, herbal hops, orange peel, sweet malts, and not much smoke to speak of- just some very light smokiness as it warms. The flavor brings more smoke, but still not much, along with orange, and a slate of caramel, biscuit, and toasted malts. Sneaky bitterness. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a dry mouthfeel. Good beer, just not that smoky.

Growler from Beirkraft. Pale hazy straw with head. Nice citrus orange floral aroma with underlying wood smoke. Mild sweet apricot fruitiness with medium assertive dry citrus rind bitterness and lingering fresh campfire smoke. Excellent.

UPDATED: MAY 8, 2013 Draft. Fucking interesting to say the least. Not quite sure how to rate this one. On one hand, the name alone is badass and warrants a decent rating. Plus this beer is very complex. On the other hand, a smoked IPA!? Should those flavors ever mix? I liked it, not loved, and could not drink more than one in a sitting.

16oz aluminium bottle. Pours a slightly hazy medium orange, with a white head. Hoppy, slightly smokey aroma, spruce, apricot, orange peel, caramel. Off-dry, medium to full bodied, mid to high bitterness, balanced CO2. Malty, hoppy taste, caramel, grapefruit peel, spruce, apricot, faintly earthy, some light smokey phenols. Interesting. Draught. Pours a hazy amber color with moderate white head. Nose was a bit shocking to me, with some sweet fruity elements coming through with a little citrus and pine underneath. Smoke starts to come through on the taste, though you get the sweetness there, too. Very odd and not what I expected.

On tap at Sam’s, Durham. Nice treat brought for the OB tap takeover. Nice moderately hazy orange pour, with a firm, medium head. Nose is lightly hoppy, of the bitter variety, with almost no detectable smoke. Smoke comes on immediately in the taste, though, melding nicely with the bitter hops and giving off the slightest impression of chiles. Pleasantly balanced beer.

Draft at PH, pours amber orange with medium sized head and lacing. Light smoke, apricot, pine, and sweet malting dominate the nose and flavor on this one. The smoke which was minimal disappeared as it warmed up. Decent ipa.
