COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We teamed up with our buddies from Indiana-based Sun King Brewery  for a CANlaboration project to unite the brewer’s friendship and passion for pushing the boundaries of craft beer in a can.   Brewers from Oskar Blues and Sun King made the trek to each others breweries for months, and are excited to bring you CHAKA, a limited-release Belgian-style ale — the first craft beer to be packaged in the Alumi-Tek® re-sealable pint bottle from Ball Corporation. CHAKA will be released May 3rd 2012 at the Craft Brewers Conference in San Diego in each attendee’s hotel room and at special events throughout the weekend (see below!).   The following week the brewers will make limited quantities available at the Oskar Blues Tasty Weasel Taproom and in Sun King’s home market.

Can/bottle courtesy of jcwattsrugger. Pours an amber/orange with a fading off-white head. Nose is big Belgian yeast, fruit, banana, plantain, and sweet malt with slight medicinal notes. Flavor is similar- some bubble gum with banana, plantain, and Belgian yeast. Yeast lingers into the finish of this light to medium-bodied Belgian.

Can from StFun. Brownish-amber with a pencil thin head. Smells of banana and apple fruity esters, brown sugar, caramel, and ginger. Thin in the mouth and watery for 8%. But it goes down easily. The flavor offers a toasted grain, brown sugar, and fruity ester mix. Lightly spiced and a touch dry in the finish. The carbonation is fairly lively and zippy. Kind of an odd and interesting beer, but not entirely in a bad way. Honestly, it’s one of those beers I’m not sure if I liked or not.

16oz twist off wide mouth can from the brewery during RBWG bus tour, 1st stop. Poured a darker gold body with an average sized white head. Aroma and flaovr of yeast, sugar, grains, toast, dry fruit. Palate is nice and really smooth, medium body and carbonation and a dry finish. Overall solid despite the weird packaging which was actually pretty cool.

Sampled at the NC brewery taproom during RBWG 2014. Pretty good stuff. Some Belgian yeast character, candi sugar, rich bread. Medium to full in body with fine to average carbonation. Sweet finish with more bready malts, mild toffee, candied sugars. Decent.

[ Can ][ Oskar Blues Brevard ][ 16oz? ][ Taster ][ Free ][ 2/7/14 ]
>> Clear amber pour with weak foam. Nose is apple cider vinegar. Taste is toffee, sugar, browned banana, cider vinegar. Palate is sugary, papery, headache inducing. Could be renamed Belgian malt liquor with the amount of fusel alcohol in here. Belch.
