We teamed up with our buddies from Indiana-based Sun King Brewery  for a CANlaboration project to unite the brewer’s friendship and passion for pushing the boundaries of craft beer in a can.   Brewers from Oskar Blues and Sun King made the trek to each others breweries for months, and are excited to bring you CHAKA, a limited-release Belgian-style ale — the first craft beer to be packaged in the Alumi-Tek® re-sealable pint bottle from Ball Corporation. CHAKA will be released May 3rd 2012 at the Craft Brewers Conference in San Diego in each attendee’s hotel room and at special events throughout the weekend (see below!).   The following week the brewers will make limited quantities available at the Oskar Blues Tasty Weasel Taproom and in Sun King’s home market.

Great Packaging, perfect for outdoor activities. First time seeing a screw top can for craft beer. Decent beer, would love to get a session IPA in this type of can. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Keg at Brewdog Manchester. A hazy copper red colour with a thick off white head. Aroma of toffee, banana, fruit esters, some smoked meat, slight crunchy nut corn flakes, a little liquorice and subtle cola. Taste of toffee, banana, fruit esters, some cereal, slight dark fruits, a little smoke, a hint of cola, liquorice and subtle spice. Full bodied and a slick texture. A bittersweet, cereally, spicy bitterness in the finish. Like a decent dubbel but a lot more complex in flavour. It’s got the toffee, banana and fruity, yeasty esters but added spice, cereal and weirdly, smokiness. Unique definitely but do I love it...not sure.

On tap. Poured a cloudy copper color with a decent head. Aroma of dark fruit, yeast and caramel. Taste of caramel sweetness, dark fruit, yeast, honey and bit of spice. Subtle bitterness and clean finish with just a bit of lingering sweetness. Moderate body, smooth and tasty. the 8% ABV is quite well hidden. Enjoyable beer.

On tap at Mike’s Grill + Tap. It poured a cloudy orange color with a white head. The aroma was of yeast, citrus, nuts and some honey. The taste was similar to the aroma with more yeast, citrus, nuts, grain and honey. Good stuff.
