3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Butters (3321) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - FEB 15, 2011
Sampled at the brewvival in charleston sc. Like a flat old dale’s pale ale but with vanilla and some fresh cedary notes. Adam Mundy suggested a toasted coconut. But honestly, not as good as a fresh dales. Fun though...

Growler at Maltzilla’s All American Weekend. Pours brownish golden color with off white head. Aromas of whisky, oak and vanilla with some floral hops. Whisky flavor is too dominant for my tastes. Mediun body with average carbonation. The regular Dale’s is much better.

(Old BA rate - growler)
Pours with a half-finger of bubbly eggshell head; OK retention but no lacing; really murky yellowy-brown color with noticeable sediment. Whisky; wood; vanilla; sweetish maltiness; burnt caramel; mildly noticeable hops in the aroma. The whisky notes show up first and then moves to a vanilla oak type of flavor; maltiness isn’t too heavy but a little sweet in the finish; just a touch of hops come into play and I would have enjoyed a bigger presence there. Medium MF; very subtle carbonation. Not great for me really; just way to dominant on the whisky and I feel like the base brew just isn’t strong enough to hold up to it = not very drinkable for me.

In your face whiskey and bourbon. Vanilla and oaky tannins Barrel takes away from the base beer.

Draft sample @ Brewvival on 2/27/10. deep copper pour with no head... Whiskey notes on the nose... completely transformed beer... hops are gone and Whiskey is in... medium body with more deep Whiskey - feels a bit one dimensional, but still enjoyable - a slight bitterness on the end.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 ksurkin (1021) - Norfolk, Virginia, USA - MAR 2, 2010
draft at Brewvival. pours a light copper with a thin, light khaki head and slick lacing. aroma is very nice with big whiskey notes, wood, dark berry, caramel malts, and mild citrus hops with a touch of grass. flavor was very tasty as well with more citrus hop coming through early backed by whiskey, wood, vanilla, and sweet, bready, caramel malts. palate is medium bodied with solid carbonation and finishes with bitter hops early and a boozy, woody bourbon late. overall, i enjoyed this one a little less that the barrel aged gordon but it’s a solid brew nonetheless.

On draught at Pi Bar for SF Beer Week.
Hazy amber orange with a white head that rings the glass.
Bright sugar on the nose and gives a slight alcohol burn. Rich caramel with vanilla bean and the barrel whisky also present. I wasn’t sure how Dale’s would work in whiskey barrels, glad I tried it but not as good as the other Oskar Blues in barrel.
