This beer is intended to be a sensory assault for hop lovers. At 8.0% ABV, four hop additions during the brew process, and a final wallop of excessive Columbus dry-hopping, this beer is meant to say one thing: MORE HOPS! Perfect for these cool winter nights, The Deviant is a returning favorite from the little brewery in Lyons, Colorado that started the Canned Revolution!

16 oz can. Clear amber with a slim whitish head, leaving lace regardless. Nose is fresh squeezed OJ, cut pine and mountain air. Thick and chewy almost like a smoothie. Carb tingle, resiny, with spicy heat that creeps up on you. Taste is orange peel, caramel and pine, kind of standard, but what sets this apart is the lovely watermelon sweetness and cracked pepper bite. I’m glad i gave one of my 4-pack to a friend or this could have gotten dangerous.

very dark orange with a finger of foamy head. Gritty hop aroma, some floral and bitter notes too. Very smooth mouthfeel, with some maltyness to start, and bitterness to finish.

16oz can. Pours golden copper with a big fluffy off-white head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is piney, resiny, slightly catty Summit hops and Columbus with some caramel malt.

The flavor is bready caramel malts with a big piney, resiny bitterness that lingers in the aftertaste. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with low carbonation.

Overall, a very nice IPA. I’ve heard it described as a mix of Dale’s and Gubna. It’s definitely not as over the top Summit as Gubna.

Pounder can from Capone’s. Pours caramel colored with a dark straw bottom edge and a finger of off-white head that laces well. Nose is big caramel malt, resiny hops, piney, funky, and black peppery. Tastes very resiny, with a huge hop bill and IBU-heavy bitterness, a solid caramel malt bill, and a medium palate heft and complex smooth finish. A bit rough around the edges, but enjoyable.

I was skeptical when I heard this beer would be a nice balance between Dale’s Pale Ale and Gubna just simply based on how light Dales Pale Ale is. They nailed it. the mouthfeel is very similar to Gubna but the taste and body are light like Dales Pale ale. Wonderful beer.

Can of goodness. Great brew, columbus bomb shines through the finish. I am heading to the store to pick up another 4 pack right now.

Very good, but not one of my favs from them. Served at a good temperature with a large, foamy, light tan to cream colored head that slowly settles and plenty of lace. Color is a clear orange honey ambewith a few bubble trails. Aroma is hops, malt, used leather, musty, and musky. Flavor’s much like nose with hop bitterness really standing out, a little malt sweetness, some carbonic tang. Body is good and full but the bitterness makes it a bit rough, carbonation is good. Finish is like flavor and body and lasts a long time. Nice to try, but for me, one and done.

500mL can, pours a clear orange amber with a big white head. Pungent aroma of resinous hops, herbal notes like marijuana, and bready malts to back. Flavour begins with resinous hops, followed by the malt backbone, going back to resin, leaving a prominent pot-like hops note that lingers on and on. Very well-constructed and quite balanced. Excellent.

16oz. can to snifter. Pours clear dark amber with a big soapy off white head that slowly fades to a sticky lacing and foamy film. Aroma has good resinous hops and caramel malt mixed well! Taste is bitter resinous pine and grapefruit with a solid mix of caramel malt (biting). Palate is full slick and chalky. Very awesome IPA that leaves you wanting more!
