This beer is intended to be a sensory assault for hop lovers. At 8.0% ABV, four hop additions during the brew process, and a final wallop of excessive Columbus dry-hopping, this beer is meant to say one thing: MORE HOPS! Perfect for these cool winter nights, The Deviant is a returning favorite from the little brewery in Lyons, Colorado that started the Canned Revolution!

16 oz. can. Canned 03/10/12. Pours a medium, long duration, ivory head, with some lacing, over a hazy, amber (SRM 9) body....nose is heavy resin, pine, hints of grapefruit, minimal hints of toffee/caramel....taste s heavy pine, light citrus, bits of toffee/caramel, hints of floral honey, heavy soapy perfume, finishing with a lingering heavily perfumed bitterness....mouth feel heavy of medium, carbonation adds a lightly creamy mouth feel. There is little doubt this is either a very big IPA or a D/IIPA. The malt back bone is dominated by the heavy hops, which are done with so much skill that it does not matter. The hop complexity is quite impressive, with the malts adding just enough back up. For best appreciation serve this rather warmer than usual. It really opens up then. BJCP 8/3/15/4/7

16oz can. I can never say enough how I love good beer in cans! Pours a deep copper with a big head that fades away after some time. The nose is a bit lacking, but the flavor more than makes up fro it. Hops assault you, but in a good way.

16oz can. I didn’t think this could be any better than Dales - but I was wrong. This one poured a copper color with a medium sized white head. Aroma was dank, hop hop hop. Woah. Bitter and sweet, this one is highly drinkable. So good.

On tap at Old Toad. Crisp amber pour with a cream head. Nose is sticky hops, citrus, grapefruits, rich malts, sweet. Very smooth on the palate, huge grapefruit hops up front, then caramel malts, and a lightly bitter finish with a slight alcohol kick.

Extremely heavy handed IPA here. Aroma is dank, resin, grass, and pine tar. Taste is an explosion of very resiny flavors. The beer is incredibly sticky with medium sweetness and is difficult to drink quickly. Too much for me.

UPDATED: MAY 26, 2012 Tall boy poured into a Sam Adams Perfect Pint Glass. Pours a dark amber, with a 2+ finger off-white, lightly yellow-ish head. Leaves generous lacing throughout drinking. Strong hop aroma, with pine and light citrus notes. HUGE hop flavor throughout. I love the powerful punch it packs - it really never lets up, which is a great thing for a hophead like me. Drinks nice and smooth, with good, balanced carbonation. Very bitter finish, which is nice. Overall, a great IPA.

Ar: Resiny lemon and pine, pungent moss and wood. Ap: Amber-orange, clear - large white head with very good retention and think chunky lacing. T: Sticky pine and tangerine, medium-sweet - some onion and herbal notes, and a medium amount of caramel - high and firm bitterness, a touch leafy - long finish of lemon, pine, and woody resin. P: Medium body with medium-high carbonation - finish is medium-dry. O: A powerful IPA - deep resin notes, with lots of fruit and pine - pretty solid malt backbone, but the hops still shine.

Heavy hops... almost as a double ipa without the lingering bitterness. Dark orange to amber color.

Can, pours medium amber, with a nice aroma of fruity hops, a little citrus in there and overall this one was quite interesting, nice offering
