3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 jethrodium (356) - Berkeley, California, USA - OCT 31, 2012On tap. Pours a slightly hazy golden copper with a small white head that has decent retention and leaves a lot of lacing on the glass. The aroma is a lot of piney hops, quite a bit of dankness, a little bit of orange, and some caramel. Initial taste has a light sweetness with lots of dank hops, some pine, and a bit of caramel. Quite dry overall. The finish is quite bitter with some lingering pine. Medium-full body. Medium carbonation. Perhaps a bit too bitter.

Been wanting to try this out for quite some time. Pours a deep orange with a sudsy white head. Big time citrus aroma in the nose. This is a hop monster. A lot of grapefruit and earthiness in this one. Why have I waited so long to try this? Oskar Blues wins yet again...

Draft (!) at Costa Mesa Yardhouse. Golden amber. Grapefruit. Pine and grapefruit. Imagine a grapefruit tree, planted by itself in the rocky mountains and raised by pines. By nature, a host for bitter citrus, but by nurture, an everpresent coniferous force of nature. Then chop it down and turn it into a beer. That is what you have here. But no splinters. The body is too nice for splinters.

I often forget what a great selection of brews are available at Augustine’s. They don’t get the super-rare stuff, but the menu is always well curated. I am not sure what prevents this 8 percent beer from falling into the IIPA category. Poured the color of honey. Smelled and tasted sweeter than what I expected. Mixture of hops was nondescript. This beer is a good candidate to bring on a backpacking trip. Draft - Augustine’s - Atlanta, GA

Draft poured a hazy orange-brownish hue with a thin white head and excellent lacing. Moderate hop aroma. Initial flavor is a light sweet with a moderate bitter finish of long duration. Taste is a citrus hop mostly grapefruit and some orange, has a strong malty backbone making for a well-balanced IPA. Medium bodied, drinks like an imperial.

Nicely done, as usual. Pours orange / yellow with a fluffy off white head. Aroma is sweet caramel malts and fruits. Sweet, medium bodied taste with a sweet sticky finish. Very sweet and heavy for an IPA, reminds me more of a barley wine.
