Draught at ’Cole’s Rare Beer Fest’, Buffalo, NY. Pours a hazy deep orange-amber with no head. Very nice aroma of light whiskey, wood, hops and sweet caramel malt. Sweet flavour of maple syrup, wood, whiskey vanilla and dry hops. Light bitter finish. Average to medium bodied. Pretty good stuff, but better then the original version? I think not.

On tap at Cole’s Rare beer fest, Buffalo. See, this is why I am so hesitant on Barrel aged beers. Ten Fidy was done to perfection while this one was overwhelmed. Amber pour with good sized white head. Aroma is very nice - lots of vanilla and sweet malt. The taste though is way too sweet and way too bourbony and it completely overwhelms the very good base beer. Oh well, back to the Whiskey Barrel Ten Fidy for me...

Draught. At Cole’s Rare Beer Fest, January 2009. Hazy deep amber with a small off-white head. Quite a mellow aroma, vanilla, sweet caramel, slightly floral - not very hoppy at all (DIPA?). The taste - sweet and bourbony, mild dry hoppiness in the background, but when I burped - oh, yeah, there’s the hop. Thin body, slightly astringent, soft and a little flat - and a long oak/vanilla finish (not too alcoholic). Quite tasty, and the IPA bitterness finally emerges in the aftertaste - a rare solid IPA that seems to work fairly well with the bourbon.

2009-01-24. Dark brown-mahogany body, headless. Bourbon barrel in the aroma, more vanilla and wood and bit less bourbon than the others. Flavour is likewise endowed with a lot of vanilla and wood, light malt middle, light bitterness in the finish. Lingering bourbon in the aftertaste. Average plus palate. Decent. Coles Rare Beer Festival , Appearance: slight haze on brownish base with lighter top. 3+ Aroma: lovely blend of whiskey accents with good malted base , cask’ey , sweet with fruity accents, hint of plum. Flavor/Palate: medium bodied. Cask feel on sides, warmth of alcohol all together neatly blended. Malty centre , enjoyable brew. Lighter finish, touch of raisin. Good balanced whiskey touch.15+/20

Draft at Cole’s in Buffalo, NY. Pours murky orange brown with a thin head. Whiskey on the nose with a touch of hoppy sweetness. The flavor has a nice restrained bourbon sweetness with a bit of a floral hoppy bite. The balance between the two is spot on, and makes for a pretty interesting beer.

On tap at The Brick Store. Pours a murky brown red. The aroma has lots of oaken qualities. There is a distinct vanilla character though a faint nip of hops comes out here and there. The palate is exceedingly creamy and works well with all the tannins. Suggestions of vanilla, cigars, oak chips, biscuits, and dead hops come out. This is weirdly good and not at all an IIPA anymore.

Draught at Oskar Blues Grill & Brew. Cloudy brown - white head. High bourbon, vanilla, coconut, wood, nice hoppy, caramel, dried fruits, alcoholic, chocolate, cocoa. Over the top !!!
