COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our “Velvet M-80” is a hefty, dry hopped double-red ale with a nose full of aroma, a sticky mouthfeel, a malty middle and unctuous hop flavors. G’Knight sports a surprisingly sensuous finish for a beer of its size (8.7% ABV, 60 IBUs). It’s brewed in tribute to a fellow Colorado craft beer pioneer and Vietnam vet who died fighting a 2002 wild fire outside of our Lyons hometown. 12 oz. can. Dark amber color with a generous head and ample lacing. Aroma is piney hops and an underlying of caramel malts. Taste is bitter but refreshing, with a decent malt present. Flavors of caramel, candy sugar, pine, mild citrus notes with a light alcohol, only just noticeable when warm. Full bodied, thick, sticky mouthfeel and a warming finish of alcohol. Drinkability is here for sure.Solid brew however, when purchasing OB; I would reach for Deviant Dale’s before this one again.

Can @ home, thx Vaiz. Aroma is big and bold fruity, piney and light herbal hops, some caramel malt notes. Flavour is big and malty with lightly burned caramel at first, then fruity hops with building bitterness, then more burned caramel. Hefty but very nice.

Can from Total Wine, Summerlin. Almost clear orange pour, thin off-white head. Aroma is fruity, sweaty, slightly floral, caramel and grapefruit. Flavor is quite bitter, fruity and with a thick body. Heavy brew.

Pour is rusty orange with lasting thick beige head. Aroma is punchy. Buckets of pine and caramel malt. Hops are oppressed but can be found if you delve. Peach, some apricot and orange. Thick, sticky mouth-feel; indicative of a lot of OB beers. Lots of pine, a hint of grapefruit initially. Fairly sweet actually. Malt consumes quickly. Toffee, burnt sugar and some cracker flavors. Medicinal honey, maybe jam on the back palate. Piney bitterness. Very nice but a little one-paced.

Can at the Rake. Aroma is strawberry jam, bit spiky. Fill bodied but jammy sweetness was good. Light spikiness. Good stuff. JAM TARTS!

On tap at the Kalamazoo Beer Exchange. Pours a clear, deep amber with a creamy head. That laces. Aroma has slight tropical hops and not a lot else. Taste is a medium bitter. Can’t really get a lot off of it. Medium body and carbonation. A bit of a strong taste and mild alcohol warmth.

Not bad but not quite what I was looking for after a nice plate of rice and black beans, carne asada, plantains, etc. Pretty much your stereotypical malt heavy double IPA (or strong ale whatever). Big doughy chewy caramel malts, seasoned heavily with resiny hops that hint at grapefruit in the nose. Long piney grapefruit rind finish, almost tannic. Heavy body.

Amber with lasting thick white head. Hoppy, caramel, dry hoppy, citrus, biscuit malt aroma. Medium-high mouth feel with high warmth. Hoppy with caramel, toffee, grainy, malt flavors. Crisp and dry.

Draught at BrewDog, Shepherd’s Bush on 23 July. Poured a hazy deep amber, with a dense off white head and good lacing. Aroma was herbal, with caramel and rich fruits. Aniseed in the flavour, with rich toffee and some fruity hops. Finish was biscuit, burnt sugar and some roasted character.
