COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our “Velvet M-80” is a hefty, dry hopped double-red ale with a nose full of aroma, a sticky mouthfeel, a malty middle and unctuous hop flavors. G’Knight sports a surprisingly sensuous finish for a beer of its size (8.7% ABV, 60 IBUs). It’s brewed in tribute to a fellow Colorado craft beer pioneer and Vietnam vet who died fighting a 2002 wild fire outside of our Lyons hometown. Tall boy. Pours a dark copper color with a small frothy off white head. Nose is resiny hops with light pine notes, sticky malt notes with light candy. Palate is quite full and sticky with a big finish that almost chokes off your air supply. Flavors of piney hops, rich sticky caramel malts, light sweet candy notes and a big presence in the mouth. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at Black Bottle Brewery. Reddish amber appearance with a light tan head. The aroma and flavor is citrus fruits, pine, caramel and clean, light bitter hops. Medium body with a creamy feel and a smooth finish. Pretty tasty.

Smell is hoppy and malty. Caramel/Toffee type aroma of the malt. Taste is sweet with roasty/caramel flavors, bitter finish. Really good, one of my favorite red ales. Would never guess this is 9%.

A - Pours a red hued amber with a giant light khaki head that melts very slowly. Minimal Lacing. S - Juicy hops galore! Pineapple, mango, honey dew melon, flowers, sticky herbal pine, slighlty toasted graham cracker, caramel T - Toasted caramel/toffee malt, floral hops, candied grapefruit, grapes, pine resin, hops turns soapy mid palate while finishing spicy. Alcohol comes out as it warms. M - Medium body, swishy carbonation, can be a tad hot at times. As a hybrid DIPA/Imperial Red this shines. The nose on this is intoxicating. It’s almost a sensory over load. It has a nice malt backbone and drinks easy for the ABV. Serving type: bottle 06-24-2011

Perfect imperial red. Never tasted anything quite like this before or since. Smooth, hints of mellow spice on the palate, and caramel finish.

Can (thanks to Bill) consumed on the bus back to Brussels. It pours clear deep amber with a thick yellow-white head. The nose is pine, red berry, dark fruit, caramel and jam. The taste is pine, resin, decent bitterness, red berry, light jam, wood and alcohol warmth with a dry, bitter finish. Medium body, moderate carbonation and slightly mouth-feel. Pretty tasty stuff really.

On draft. Pours a reddish copper color with nice off white head. Aroma is heavy grapefruit, grass, and caramel. Taste is nicely balanced with tons of hops and a welcome sweetness to balance it out. Not overly bitter and very tasty.

Great Red Ale! Nice solid heavily hopped (but not crazy hopped) beer. Aromatics scream grapefruit and grass. Taste is lovely! Nice resin feel to the palate. Overall, really loved this.

Pine, citrus fruit, resin, caramel, and bread crust on the nose. A clear, deep red-amber with a well-retaining, rocky, khaki head. Dry and savory malts, nuts, toast, and caramel, combine with fresh, juicy, bitter hops. Medium bodied, strong but very smooth, carbonation is thick and cleansing, finishes with more nutty, caramel malts, and a final dose of big hop bitterness.
