COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our “Velvet M-80” is a hefty, dry hopped double-red ale with a nose full of aroma, a sticky mouthfeel, a malty middle and unctuous hop flavors. G’Knight sports a surprisingly sensuous finish for a beer of its size (8.7% ABV, 60 IBUs). It’s brewed in tribute to a fellow Colorado craft beer pioneer and Vietnam vet who died fighting a 2002 wild fire outside of our Lyons hometown. The spicy aroma of this IPA was very present as my glass was seemingly covered with this big, yet clean, flavored ale. As I have been favoring double ipa-s recently, this dark amber ale was very refreshing and a welcome change in my otherwise uneventful day. The elements of caramel style malts and the sparkling hops made this very easy to drink.

I love a hoppy red. Make it imperial and I love it twice as much. Plenty of piney, citrus bitter hops in here. To be honest, the bitterness swamps the caramel notes a little bit. Gotta dig for them. Great stuff.

Woody, some caramel/date, some mild black pepper spice, some grass too. Alcohol hidden well – a trait in common with its stablemate “Gubna” Imperial IPA (tried alongside this beer) – or you could this is under-powered? It’s v drinkable - that’s for sure. [Sidenote: text on rim of can continues this brewery’s herby theme: “can’o bliss. satisfy ya.”]

On tap and 12oz can. Pours a dark amber color with a slightly off white head that sticks around. Aroma of citrusy hops lead on the nose and are followed by a floral sweetness. Maltiness if noticeable, but not overwhelming. Taste is bright but slightly resiny and citrus hops that lead perfectly into malty sweetness with a great balance. The alcohol is hidden well, and leaves tropical notes on the tongue. Finishes smoothly and not too bitter. Carbonation is near perfect. Body is full, but still drinkable.
