Our “Velvet M-80” is a hefty, dry hopped double-red ale with a nose full of aroma, a sticky mouthfeel, a malty middle and unctuous hop flavors. G’Knight sports a surprisingly sensuous finish for a beer of its size (8.7% ABV, 60 IBUs). It’s brewed in tribute to a fellow Colorado craft beer pioneer and Vietnam vet who died fighting a 2002 wild fire outside of our Lyons hometown. Tap @ Oskar Blues. A nice warm up on a cold day. Never had this brew of theirs before so I tried it out on a stop through town on vacation. Not too sweet, nice moderate hop character. Going down easy.

An aroma of malt, rye and a trace of hops. Reddish amber color with a lasting creamy off white head. Sweet malt taste with grains, rye, and traces of hops. An oily feel with a sweet malt finish.

Very hoppy! This is actually a bit more than I at the time could handle. Great aroma, which really gave me the right expectations, but the taste was as I said a bit more than I could take. Insanely bitter, with character of red apples and some dry floral stuff.

Served on cask at Al’s of Hampden into a nonic pint.

A - Pours a hazy light brown with a small one finger white head that leaves light lacing down the glass.

S - Fragrant piney hops give it a grassy, leafy, aroma that helps to balance the sweetness from the caramel malts. A hint of the alcohol hides well but is present. A preview of things to come if there ever was one.

T - Huge sweetness from the malt right off the bat. The piney hops pick up where the sweetness left off. Hop flavors are similar to the nose with the addition of citrus fruits such as orange, lemon, and grapefruit. Alcohol is hidden well but is present in the finish. The bitterness from the hops are a welcome addition to this overly sweet offering.

M - Medium body with a medium-heavy flavor thanks to all the sweetness. Good carbonation. Fairly smooth with a sticky sweet finish.

D - I enjoyed this one quite a bit but the huge amounts of sweetness knocks it down a few notches. A good offering from the kings of cans.

Can. Pours a hazy dark reddy colour. Nice fresh trop fruit, grassy hoppiness. Medium body, medium carbonation. Caramel, juicy trop fruit, lemon, fruit loaf... Sticky, but balanced and tasty. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Can @ home, thx Vaiz. Aroma is big and bold fruity, piney and light herbal hops, some caramel malt notes. Flavour is big and malty with lightly burned caramel at first, then fruity hops with building bitterness, then more burned caramel. Hefty but very nice.

Can from Total Wine, Summerlin. Almost clear orange pour, thin off-white head. Aroma is fruity, sweaty, slightly floral, caramel and grapefruit. Flavor is quite bitter, fruity and with a thick body. Heavy brew.

Pour is rusty orange with lasting thick beige head. Aroma is punchy. Buckets of pine and caramel malt. Hops are oppressed but can be found if you delve. Peach, some apricot and orange. Thick, sticky mouth-feel; indicative of a lot of OB beers. Lots of pine, a hint of grapefruit initially. Fairly sweet actually. Malt consumes quickly. Toffee, burnt sugar and some cracker flavors. Medicinal honey, maybe jam on the back palate. Piney bitterness. Very nice but a little one-paced.

Can at the Rake. Aroma is strawberry jam, bit spiky. Fill bodied but jammy sweetness was good. Light spikiness. Good stuff. JAM TARTS!
