Our “Velvet M-80” is a hefty, dry hopped double-red ale with a nose full of aroma, a sticky mouthfeel, a malty middle and unctuous hop flavors. G’Knight sports a surprisingly sensuous finish for a beer of its size (8.7% ABV, 60 IBUs). It’s brewed in tribute to a fellow Colorado craft beer pioneer and Vietnam vet who died fighting a 2002 wild fire outside of our Lyons hometown. Canned 2/20/13 "Happy G’Birthday!" Appearance: Like any other Oskar Blues product, crystal clear. This one has a color you’d expect -- red. The head is off-white, meringue-like, and about a finger high. Lacing is spotty but nice. Smell: A very nice blend of hops, and it’s hard to pinpoint one aroma that I’m getting out of it ... the "aftersmell" is super sweet, which is the best part about it. After digging for a little while, I finally decided that this beer has a pretty significant pineapple and tropical fruit aroma. Taste: Malty flavors coat the mouth quite a bit thanks to the fact that this is a red, but the intense amount of hops balance that sweetness extremely well. Peppery, spicy hops burn the back of the tongue just a little bit, and I find that it’s a great way to make sure the malt isn’t too dominant. The finish is a tad bitter, but the front is pretty sweet, so again, very nice balance here overall. Feel: The feel on this one is nearly perfect -- it’s a pretty big beer (ABV wise and someone heavy in the feel as well), and it almost drinks like a meal. At the same time, the drinkability on this one is crazy high. Overall: This could be my favorite Oskar Blues offering. Dale’s Pale is a great pale ale with a refreshing hop kick, Mama’s Little Yella is a must-try for anybody that’s a Bud Light only person (since it has a pretty light, but solid flavor), Deviant Dale’s is a huge, burning, whale of an IPA... but G’Knight is just better, despite how good all of those beers are. Super tasty, refreshing, gets the job done... must try.

Big blootering red number. Serious malt contender, with the thankful backup of that tropical funk punch to the nose. Does this smell of cauliflower a little? I’m getting a real vegetal front end here. Yep cauliflower cheese. Palate is rich and creamy, with a great spice note aided by fine carbonation. Taste is straight up tropical cheese fruit. Mineral maltiness to follow. Lovely balanced tail, not too dry or bitter at all despite the massive hop profile. This one is in the top 2-3 imperial IPAs I’ve had, of any colour.

Transfer from BA review from 6-20-12 - Served on tap in a 10 oz chalice glass Appearance – Served an amber red color with a thin off white head. The head faded fast to leave a moderate amount of lacing. Smell – The smell was a wonderful balance of sweet tropical fruit (mango, pineapple and a lighter peach) and malt mixed with some citrus and floral hop aromas. Overall very balanced. Taste – The taste as was the nose was- very balanced. It started out on the sweeter side with a good deal of tropical fruit and some bready features. These are quickly meet with some hop flavors of citrus nature. As the taste moves on and the sweetness fades a bit, one is left with a hoppy citrus, pine and grassy hop flavor on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body is quite creamy with the carbonation level on the lover side. Both really help to accentuate the sweeter and hoppy flavors of the beer and suit it quite well. Overall – A delicious and very enjoyable red IPA. It has flavor, aroma and feel in a very balanced manner. A wonderful brew and definitely one to try.

This is truly a great Beer. Oskar Blues takes pride in the beers they produce, and it shows. This is a smooth, clean beer, with great character, balance, and hop finish. It is as enjoyable on a cold winter night, as a hot summers day. This beer has toasty, caramel, and biscuit flavors. A great red hue, and a really sweet and crisp finish. I could drink this all day, which makes it very drinkable.

Dark amber with a nice head. Aroma is woody and sweet. Medium in body with good carbonation. Flavor is a bit bitter for my taste, but there is a good amount of malty sweetness.

Can. Translucent red with a thick off white head. Aroma is resinous with pine and sweet fruity malt. Taste adds some tropical fruit, bready malt and substantial alcohol burn. Lots of different things going on here but they're all subtle enough that it's not overwhelming. Mouthfeel is surprisingly soft with little carb. Pretty good.
