12 oz can - Pours medium body, amber/red with fluffy white head. Sticky lacing. This beer is a monster. Toffee/malt backbone with a little bit of breadiness that is a nice undertone to the big hop bite. A superbly well balanced beer and must try for any fans of DIPA.

Pours a nice red with an off white head and aroma of hops and fruits. Taste is sweet, of dried fruits, hops, and alcohol with the alcohol and bitterness lingering in the finish. Nice brew from Oskar Blues

Pours a nice hue of red, with a small head. Nose is sweet and fruity. Taste is flavorful, with a sweet raisiny taste..... fair amount of bitterness. Landing is sweet, moderately long and bitter. Medium bodied and lightly carbonated. Worth a try but not a retry. Quaff Score 7/ 10

Pours a dark copper color on tap with decent off white head and good lacing. Smell is malty sweet, almost like copper and rye, with a decent hop characteristic too. Taste follows smell; very well balanced with a slight alcoholic bite on the back end. Superb, delicious, amazing.

Sampled on tap pours a hazy light amber with athin billowing head. Aromas are mainly floral and piney some grapefruit and alcohol. Flavor is very bitter. Body is almost full and finish is dry and astringent.

On tap at David Copperfield's. Grapefruit aroma, all hops. Well balanced between malt and hops on the palate. Had this beer when they first started making it and I think it's even better now. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Nice frothy pour with a bright orangish amber color. The aroma has nice citrus presence, but you also get the sweet resin. Taste has the sweet malts, caramel, the citrus, and a little bit of bitterness. The beer has very sticky feel, but a medium body and carbonation. Definitely an Imperial Red winner.

Better than most red ales for sure. Just a big, sticky Imperial IPA or something,

12oz can at Capital Ale House. This was enjoyed with my broter-in-law after the funeral for a good friend. The cloudy amber ale had a creamy head that stayed with the IPA. Some lacing for this medium body ale. The citrus aroma hits at the very first nose into the glass. A very balanced ale and deceptive alcohol. Smoth finish for the ale with average carbonation.

Originally reviewed: 8/28/09. Canned in April ’09; poured into my snifter. Pours a much darker than expected tawny amber. A very thin off-white sheet of bubbles rests on top, but doesn’t last long. Little to no lacing sticks. Still, this is a nice looking beer. I dip my nose into the glass and I am bombarded with sweet citrus perfumes. Waves of pineapple, grapefruit, candied malts, brown sugar, and flowers burst forth. This smells wonderful. The mouth is crisp, yet smooth. The bubbles leave a little zest on the tongue as I sip. Decent. This can is a bit ’old’ for a DIPA, so some of the bitterness has worn off. I review it nonetheless, because I still loved this. As time has gone by, the malts are creeping to the forefront. Big toffee, brown sugar presence at the onset, a slight bitterness in the middle, and it finishes sweet and warming. There’s hints of what this once was with some hoppy bitterness, but it is tamed down for sure. Still, this is really good. I’ve actually just started seeing this around this area, so I’ll have to grab a ’fresh’ can and see how it compares, but a few months on this bad boy has done it no harm. Recommend.
