smcolw (314), Wayland, Massachusetts, USA Apr 25, 2009 Impressive three-finger, thick head. Leaves a chunky ring lace after each sip. The color is dark copper and is crystal clear.
Beautiful floral hop aroma...very inviting. Light malt in the background, but this is as it should be: A hoppy ale.
Creamy texture, with a lightish level of carbonation. Great balance for a DIPA. Solid malt body that quickly succumbs to the hop bomb. Not as bitter as some which makes this a very easy to drink beer. The alcohol is muted, which means this is a deceptively powerful beer. Barrios (852), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Apr 23, 2009 Pours a deep, off-white head that laces and a clover honey color body. Smells of hops and barley. Makes me think of a barley wine. Tastes of barley, hops, caramel, tea, and lemon. Finish is bitter and dry, almost tannic, like black tea. Hopped well. Ceebs25 (217), Naperville, Illinois, USA Apr 20, 2009 12 oz can (thanks again to Pawola22). Aroma is very pleasant as its hard to keep my nose away from the glass, but does not strike me as a true iipa, but more of American strong ale. A bunch of fruits, melons, citrus, grapefruit, heavy fruits like dates, medium fruits like apples, also with a good nutty caramel and cereal grains. The pour is decent, small creamy smooth head, little carbonation, decent lacing and retention, good clarity with a medium body, and good rusty orange color. Tasting this beer confirms my belief that this is more toward the imperial amber side of the description, but no matter what you want to call it, there’s a bunch of quality things going on in this beer. Balance is superb and the flavors here go very well together. Rich roasted cereals malts and nutty caramel come up right away, paving the way for more some heavier fruits like melons, thicker citrus with lemony grapefruit, minor spices alongside some darker fruits, and then a finish that is more herbal earth and light citrus that still maintains some of the melon and other malty starting qualities to make a fairly wet and sticky linger. Things are never too clumped together and blurred, but it does ride the edge of that fairly closely. Overall, I am definitely a fan of this beer. Well done. duke33 (56), Eldersburg, Maryland, USA Apr 20, 2009 Amazing...probably the best beer in a can i’ve ever had. Strong (8.7%ABV) and smooth IPA. Reminds me a lot of Dogfish’s 90 minute ipa. illidurit (851), Santa Cruz, California, USA Apr 18, 2009 Clear golden amber color with a big fluffy beige head. Lots of sticky lacing and nice retention. Aroma is pineapple juice and a huge dose of caramel and brown sugar. Overly sweet. Flavor is sweet caramel malts and fruity hops. Not a lot of bitterness. Pleasant but not that complex and a little too sweet. Body is medium, carbonation is subdued, high drinkability. Lowe1983 (1029), Fairborn, Ohio, USA Apr 18, 2009 Had on tap at Taco Mac. Pours an amber color with an off-white head. Aroma is of citrus and pine hops with some caramel malts. Flavor is the same with a decent bitter finish that lingers. Not very much warming on this one. potbeercollege (252), Boulder, Colorado, USA Apr 16, 2009 Updated: Oct 22, 2009Canned. Just maybe the best drinking beer ever! It has a beautiful amber color. Make sure you drink it a little warmer. If it is too cold the aroma seems mild but when left at an appropriate IPA or PA temperature this IIPA/IAA explodes with scent. The beers palate is oily...maybe a little too oily (my only complaint) but combined with the sweeter caramel malt palate creates an incredibly sticky beer! The taste is bold ver BOLD with sweet malts of caramel and lots of hops on the back end that makes the finish linger bitter for a while. A little fruit on top. Alcohol is high but well hidden. Great Day Beer! FlssmrBrewAlum (1053), Lisle, Illinois, USA Apr 10, 2009 12 oz can courtesy of Discount Liquors (Milwaukee, WI). Pours a dark murky amber with big bubbly offwhite head that dissipates to a moderate amount, laces well. Aromas are evident straight from the crack, carmel malt based with floral hops complimented by citrusy grapefruit, pine, and some resiny earthiness. Smells a bit sweet overall. Initial pushed malty bready and carmel overall up front, no shocking bitterness, but moves to some citrus and florals and moderate bitterness further in. Moves to pine and resin a bit, but still malt dominant overall. This is a good beer, but just not my thing as it moves towards the Strong Ale category easily.
