Strykzone (1458), Wood River, Illinois, USA Aug 13, 2008 Nice looking pour. Amber brown with a one inch tan head. Spider web lacing. Nose is full of hop. This beer might be the cause of the hop shortage! Grapefruit and pine dominate the flavor with some sweetening caramel underneath. The hops provide a big bite along with tons of bitterness. Feels creamy. The ugly can told me this would be a cheap crappy beer. It lied. Avengedpoet (325), Mesa, Arizona, USA Aug 13, 2008 Pours a deep ruby red with a very nice, yet restrained head. Aroma is a beautifully clean American hop extravaganza. Taste reflects the aroma. Very clean; makes me think that only one hop was used. Many times breweries utilize way too many hops and the character gets muddled. Few and far between are gems like this that let one shine through unabated. I’m going to call this an Imperial IPA, and my favorite thus far of the style. Bhops (329), Dallas, Texas, USA Aug 12, 2008 Pours amber with thick head. Wonderful piney/citrus aroma... all hops. Flavor is sweet with big, well-balanced hop kick. Good beer. ReademNwheat (174), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 10, 2008 From a can, pours a golden copper color with off white head. Big citrusy hops in the aroma. More of the same in the taste along with some sweet caramel malts. changeup45 (782), Orlando, Florida, USA Aug 9, 2008 I can’t remember the last time I had a beer out of the can but I think it’s safe to say it wasn’t as good as this one. Pours a murky orange color with a thin off-white head. Aroma is strong citrus and pine with some malt following. Piney and citrus hop flavors, light bitterness, and a nice caramel malty backbone. Not hoppy enough to be an Imperial IPA so this definitely seems more like some sort of American Strong Ale. Good beer. durhambeer (1186), Durham, USA Aug 5, 2008 From a can, which I’m really starting to get into. I love the way cans offer the perfect head when pouring... at least Oskar Blues beers offer a great head. Copper pour, either hazy or dark enough not to see through. Tenacious off-white head and great lacing. Lovely beer in appearance and in consistency. Hoppy nose; very pleasant if not utterly complex. Loads of citrus and light pine. A little sweet smelling. Great balance of hops and malt... waaay too drinkable for an almost 9% beer. This is a ridiculous thing to say, but this would have been an awesome beer for 10 years ago in college when getting drunk was a goal, but I still tried to drink good beer.
radiomgb (1920), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada Aug 2, 2008 Clear copper in colour, large and ligering off-white coloured head, excellent lacing. The aroma is very hoppy with both pine and citrus, caramel sweetness and some alcohol. The flavour is hoppy, lots of caramel sweetness, lots of pine, woody and dry. Moderately bitter mouthfeel, medium body, medium/high carbonation. Finishes long, sweet and hoppy.
This was quite hoppy, at times very foresty. Seems to lack a bit of body was was a little on the thin side.
355ml can from the Premier Gourmet in Buffalo, New York.
Opened on February 21, 2008.
No date.
lithy (1600), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Jul 30, 2008 Dark copper pour with a cream colored head that recedes quickly but coats the sides of the glass in little laced islands. Very intriguing nose smells like Belgian candy sugar, strong amber malts, hoppiness, and alcohol. Taste is even better, floral hops and sweet sweet malt blends like a mellower Imperial IPA. Has a wine like stickiness in the mouth. Fantastic beer, first beer from a can that didn’t taste like metal.
