Commercial Description:
Gordon is a dry-hopped hybrid strong ale somewhere between a Double IPA and and Imperial Amber Ale (IAA). Brewed in tribute to the late Gordon Knight, Gordon is brewed with massive amounts of American hops and features about 85 IBUs and 8.7% alcohol by volume. Once a winter seasonal, Gordon is now a year-round, limited-supply offering.

aroma is, umm, hoppy, but not overpowering. Color is a nice shade of caramel, slightly hazy. very nice head and lacing. flavor is very toffee-like hidden behind the hops. A very, very well balanced beer. This is dern good beer.

Can: Courtesy of my boy Major0429 by way of SoLan...thanks to both of you. Pour was a light amber with a minimal cream head and fine lacing. The nose on this is ridunculous...notes of red apple, light malts, mild caramel hints and a wonderful citrus hop offering. Perfect mouth feel. Flavor is fantastic...sweet caramel, citrus, floral hops and light fruity esters. The thing that makes this beer so damn good is the balance that it has...the hops don’t overwhelm it and the malt characteristics hold their own. Everything about this brew is beautiful. Damn near perfect.

On tap at the brewery, elsewhere, and in the can! Skoi like Gordon. Really enjoy how you can’t really tell if this is a DIPA, a strong red, or both! Regardless the malt characteristics blend joyfully with a huge hop cone flavor throughout the body and finish. At $3.99 a can most place, I do believe it is a bit over-priced though.

Mmmm. Delicoius! Another winner from Oskar Blues in a beautiful silve can. I enjoyed this one a lot. Tons of hops, a sweet malt profile. Pine, grapefruit are the two most prominent hop flavors. Definitely not overpowering though, which is a suprise considering there is no denying its a hop heavy beer. Right up there with all Oskar Blues as the best beer anyone can find in a can.

Huh. How did I miss rating this? Can from Market Street Wineshop Downtown Charlottesville. The following is my review from cvillebeergeek.blogspot.com

Appearance: Pours a dark, dark amber with a medium sized frothy head. The head doesn’t stick around but leaves a thick layer of lacing around the glass. This has the look of an imperial IPA. 4.0/5.0

Aroma: Big hop profile... mostly citrus but also some pine. Big hops, but not too assertive. Fairly well balanced. 3.5/5.0

Taste: The hops come through right up front. They have an assertive but soft character. This is balanced fairly well by a nice malty sweetness. I can’t detect any of the "canniness" that Chris fears so much. Still, there seems to be something missing. 3.5/5.0

Mouthfeel: The hops are strong, but not too sharp. That being said, if you’re not a fan of hoppy beers, this probably won’t be your cup of tea. Medium body with a sticky, oily texture. 4.0/5.0

Drinkability: The relatively high alcohol content is well hidden, and if you are a "hop head," this one goes down easy. That being said, this is not a beer for the uninitiated. The stickyness leads to a heavy, warm feeling in the belly after a while. 4.0/5.0

Overall: 3.70/5.00. This is a good beer, but not outstanding. That being said, it’s the best beer I’ve ever had out of a can. That being said, that’s not saying all that much. That being said, it’s still a mighty fine beer. It is a bit pricy. I can’t remember exactly, but I think I paid $3.69 for it at Market Street Wine Shop downtown.

Deep red-orange amber. Huge aromas of fudgey caramel and tropical fruit. Chewy malty palate with an equally generous fruity hop load (citrus, guava), big bitter finish. Absolutely delicious.

12 oz can from Total Wine. Nose of grassy and floral hops with nice sweet malty background. Amber orange mostly clear with fluffy white head and a bit of lacing on the glass. Grainy cherrios and carmel malts with grassy floral hops. I got a big sweet tea flavor. Medium body with a fairly dry finish with a touch of bitterness. Nice, different, very tasty beer.
