Commercial Description:
Gordon is a dry-hopped hybrid strong ale somewhere between a Double IPA and and Imperial Amber Ale (IAA). Brewed in tribute to the late Gordon Knight, Gordon is brewed with massive amounts of American hops and features about 85 IBUs and 8.7% alcohol by volume. Once a winter seasonal, Gordon is now a year-round, limited-supply offering.

Pours a deep, thick, almost cloudy burnt orange/red. Earthy, pine aromas dominate the nose. Flavor is super-hopped (not my favorite style) with just a hint of caramel malty goodness. Palate is heavy and smooth, but finishes too dry for my liking. This is a well hopped beer that will be loved by loved by those that enjoy the style.

Poured from a can. Poured a nice ruby-amber color with a thick off-white head that left good lacing. Aroma of earthy, resiny hops and light caramel malt with some toffee and a light nuttiness. Smooth, sweet caramel entry with a nice toffee flavor that leads into a nice piny hop hit with undertones of nuts and more caramel flavor. Very full and rich in flavor. Nice and smooth on the palate with a good hop bite. Way too easy to drink, I could try to session this and get into a lot of trouble...

Pours dark amber with big tan head. Strong aroma of hops and some malts. Very malty taste to start and finishes with a nice hoppy flavor. Medium body with an oily mouthfeel and average carbonation. Very good.

Can. Moderate malt aromas of roasted, nutty, and caramel, heavy hops of spruce and resin, light broth for the yeast with raisin and toffee in the background. Head is rocky, off white that is fully lasting, with lacing that coats better than 75% of the glass. Color is clear light red. Flavor starts lightly sweet and acidic, then finishes lightly bitter. Palate is medium, oily, with soft carbonation. I can’t believe something this good comes from a can with no trace of metal in the taste.

Orange-red. Golden with a firm head. Hoppy aroma full of pine, oranges and citrus. Lots of caramel and wood as flavours with a tasty fruity bitternes, that finishes dry. Excellent.

I agree with the description "somewhere between a Double IPA and an Imperial Amber". This beer’s ruby red body and caramel sweetness lends itself to a characterization of amber. Likewise, evergreen and grapefruit evident in the finish undoubtedly bring thoughts of an IIPA. Added points for complexity...tasty!!!
