Bluesman (9), Denver, Colorado, USA does not count Dec 8, 2007 Pours a hazy orangish color with an off white head. The aroma packs a punch of floral hops. Real smooth palate; mouthfeel is sorta thick and it goes down real smooth and doesn’t leave a bothersome residue. Bitter and balanced flavor. This is a big beer, a tasty beer, and dammit I wish they sold it in six packs rather than four packs. It’s snowing like crazy in Denver tonight, and I’m pretty happy to have this beer to keep me warm. Brigadier (1212), Chagrin Falls, Ohio, USA Dec 8, 2007 12 oz can
Thanks to Beerlando for sending me this as a bonus in a recent trade. I have seen it on the shelves before but never picked it up because of the cost. I’m not likely to buy anymore for the same reason but it was an excellent release. If you have someone to split a six-pack with this is worth trying.
Aroma / Appearance - The orangish-red body was fairly unusual after a number of Christmas ales and imperial stouts. A short lived white ash head laced the top before collapsing in on itself. Sticky chunks of lacing clung to the sides of my snifter. The hoppiness was very strong but unable to totally overpower the combination of chocolate and oranges. Glazed Krispy Kreme donuts sitting in a freshly painted room summarizes the experience nicely.
Flavor / Palate - Hopped up lemon meringue bars stand out first. The bitterness and maltiness play against each other in stages. First one will stand out before the other comes forward for a few seconds. Finally after a while the vanilla, peach and pine finish wraps things up. The mouthfeel is creamy (like Cool Whip). This beer falls somewhere between a typical Imperial IPA and American Strong Ale like Arrogant Bastard. pepsican (883), The Student Ghetto, Iowa, USA Dec 7, 2007 Poured a deep amber with a huge head. Amazing lacing on this one, one of the best pours I’ve seen all year. Has a nice hoppy aroma, malty sweets too, caramel. Flavor was nice and hoppy, but well balanced with the malts. Resiny. Decent carbonation, strong but not long lasting finish. I need more of this! Thanks goes to BlackForestCO for getting this for me! fiulijn (7150), Como; Lausanne (CH); Malmö (SWE), Italy Dec 4, 2007 Can Beautiful, bright dark amber color; big head. Powerful hoppy aroma, resiny, but also a bit fruity and cheesy. Good body strength, sweet malt and sweet caramel flavor, well balanced by the powerful hopping; the final is very strong, long, with very good resin footprint. Bold and straightforward, maybe lacking some complexity, but very pleasant. danhitch (17), USA Dec 3, 2007 Can: Poured a dark copper with a long lasting off-white head. Very nice hoppy/pine-like nose to the beer. The taste of this beer was terrific. The initial flavor was a sort of minty hop flavor that settled into a nice blend of malt that had sweet apple, biscuit, and toffee flavors. The finish was a velvety smooth hop flavor as well. This beer also had tons of body. Great beer overall. One of my new favorites. Too bad it’s a bit pricey. axilla (962), New Providence, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 3, 2007 Pours a hazy orange brown color with a huge, foamy tan head that’s very slowlyshrinking. Big resiny pine and sweet citrus aroma. Sticky evergreen flavor through-out with some sweet hints of lemons, oranges, and grapefruit. saxo (3511), Højbjerg, Aarhus, Denmark Dec 1, 2007 Can. Nice head with good duration. Color is dark amber. Aroma and taste are flowery hops topped with a sweetness from caramel and maybe some citrus. tytoanderso (1382), St. Louis Park, Minnesota, USA Nov 30, 2007 Can from Beerlando. Great aroma. Balanced sweet toffee malt and heavy on the pine hops. Pours full copper with a creamy white head leaving sticky lacing. The sticky malt and resinous hops are balanced quite nicely. Just a hint of alcohol. Quite nice. Medium to full bodied. Creamy with a lasting resiny finish. Very nice.
