nhorween (639), Chicago, Illinois, USA Oct 27, 2007 Sample at GABF. This is the only beer I’m rating from the festival, which I think was a big let down from last year, for the record. That said, this beer is great. Hops and good caramel malts, with some dark fruit mixed in. Lots of character. Clean, but sweet, flavor with a nice bitter finish. I like it. beermatrix (1497), Twin Cities, Minnesota, USA Oct 24, 2007 Smeared, dull, darkish orangey color with a magnificently large capping of slightly yellowed spongy, pocketed foam. The top sits forever and a day while encompassing the edge with a large blanketing of thick splotchy lacing.
Soft pleasing dark and rich aroma of slightly dried caramel malt, candish to a point, with a pinch of dried floral hoppiness, pine dust, and some dark fruity oils.
Nice well-rounded tone, flavor, and profile for a Dbl. IPA. Actually this is quite yummy with a good portion of medium fronted caramel candyness wrapped in a whirlwind of light dryishness, mild toasted grain, dark fruity raisin skin touches, and some floral hints and plenty of oily hoppynessa and pine hints with a titch of citrus-like pithy bitterenss to finish it off.
Feel is quite smooth, rich, creamy, oily, with just the right kind of buzz of dryness and bitterness flying about within the malty realm of ggodness. A soaking enrichment of caramel and slightly toasted malt fills the palate while the hops add some attractive qualities of dark flowery oils and citric pithy dryness.
A pleasantly unique and damn fine Dbl. IPA here. Nothing overwhemling here and at 8.7% makes it low on the scale of ABV for a beer that tastes as big as this. Amazingly cool that something this good comes from a can. Maybe a few places could learn from such a trend? Hmmm... fro2218 (466), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Oct 23, 2007 This beer is delighfully hoppy. Has a wonderful balance with a lot of sweet caramely malt. Damn good. riversideAK (2648), Shoreline, Washington, USA Oct 22, 2007 Pours a murky reddish brown with visible floaties. Strong and hoppy atoma. Notes of pine and other earth tones and some toastiness. Strong bitterness up front. Very piney but it does become more subdued with some woody flavors, caramel, and light sweet fruit. Mouthfeel is rather smooth and mellow for how hoppy it is. Fruity with some vanilla and grass too. Not to resiny or dry but more fruity and nice. I like this one. ChristianScheffel (4431), Odense, Denmark Oct 21, 2007 Amber beer with a medium sized, lasting off-white head. Ridiculously intense American hop aroma, with peach and orange up front, grapefruit, wood, roses, pine and a hint of caramel malt behind it.
Rather sweet, with a strong and delicious bitterness. There is a slightly unpleasant grassy hop flavour initially, but soon it’s a nice grapefruit and peach flavour that dominates. Long lasting bitterness burning in your mouth to make any hophead feel satisfied. yespr (11613), Copenhagen O, Denmark Oct 21, 2007 12 fl oz can. Pours clear and amber with a 2 finger thick light orange head. Dry, woody, grapefruity and peachy aroma. Flavour holds a solid sweet malt base with a nice fruityness on top. In the finish a nice liqourice note appears. Simple and very flavourful, great stuff. Enjoyit (1695), Vadum, Denmark Oct 21, 2007 Amber of color with an off-white head. An aroma of hops and weak notes of malt and liqurice. A flavor of malt, pines, citrus and a bitter finish. cbkschubert (1945), Cochise Co., Arizona, USA Oct 18, 2007 12 oz. can from Plaza Liquor - Pours a clear deep copper color with a one and a half finger thickoff white head. Nice lacing. Light carbonation. Aroma is full of hops with some sweet doughy malt in the background. Flavor is mostly semi-sweet toasted malt, but has some nice hop flavoring left in there. Palate is slightly dry and bitter. Medium body. A good beer.
