alagnak (293), Littleton, Colorado, USA Jul 25, 2009 Draft @ the brewery in Lyons. Awwesome looking beer - nose is heavy tootsie roll and orange zest resin (imagine zesting an orange and smelling the zester). Flavor is really well-balanced hops and a caramelly malt. Smooth and really dangerously drinakble for the ABV. Bitterness dominates the finish, which is crisp, not mouth coating. Excellent. curly (548), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Jul 24, 2009 Pours mostly clear amber with a frothy beige head with retention. Aroma is toffee and orange. Thick body with toffee, roast malt, bitter hops and a smooth texture. Very bold taste with a brutal bitter finish. shawnm213 (880), South Bend, Indiana, USA Jul 24, 2009 pours a hazy copper with some ruby highlights. medium tan head leaves some tight lace on the glass. notes of caramel, floral hops, booze. a bit sweet and sugary, could maybe use more pungent hops. big sticky mouthfeel. pretty good beer. satisfied me. Thanks Santa! AlabastorJones (761), San Francisco, California, USA Jul 22, 2009 deep amber color, light off white head, diacityl nose, sweet caramel malts, lots of residual sugars, hint at some roasted grains, not overly bitter for style which is actually a good thing for me, it’s no pliny but it is much more balanced than most other Impy IPAs, lots of C hops in the flavor, pretty good, the 8.7% is very well hidden
. . . . . . . . . . . . . it’s actually only 60 IBUs according to their head brewer, the 85 is wrong... check out the brewing network’s (thebrewingnetwork.com) can you brew it? episode if you don’t believe me: http://s125483039.onlinehome.us/archive/cybi07-20-09.mp3 williamherbert (461), Syracuse, New York, USA Jul 19, 2009 From a can... gorgeous orange/red color; deep and cloudy. Head disappears fast since the can isn’t conducive to carbonation.
Well balanced in both aroma and flavor: dark amberish malts, woody and flowery hops. Strong and bitter in hops and malt. Milky on the palate, pleasant bite on the way down. Strong, and too expensive, but delicious. Dmalone102 (216), Denver, Colorado, USA Jul 18, 2009 I like Gooey double IPA’s better than any other beer in the world, but Gordon is a little too sweet and gooey. It’s very sweet and fruity, like papaya. The hops offer a decent citrus blast, but it is too sweet for the style, in my oppinion. Ramenen (453), San Salvador, El Salvador Jul 17, 2009 Drank it on tap at San Francisco’s Toronado with my father. Good, solid IIPA. Medium bodied, dry and hoppy. tgncc (796), Bellmore, New York, USA Jul 11, 2009 Nose is citrusy hops, very strong. Not a lot in the way of malts, a little strange for an IIPA. Attractive red color, tan head, partly hazy. The flavor is citrus hops, some caramel, malts. Not enough balance between hops and malts for an IIPA, to tell you the truth. Finish is lingering hops, mainly resiny, and some citrus. Medium mouthfeel and not very sticky (again a surprise!). Decent, but not great.
