Each year GUBNA takes on a personality of its own. We seek out the most exciting and best available hops from each individual season to create a potent and complex Imperial IPA. GUBNA is packed with Rye and North American Pale Malt and accented with Munich Malt to give a spicy and flavorful backbone to support loads of kettle hops driving the IBUs to triple digits.
** This beer will now feature different hops in the massive dry hop every year.
2015 - Features whole leaf Galena hops, plus Sorachi Ace and Columbus hops. Dry hopped with copious amounts of El Dorado, Comet and Chinook.

Pours clear amber, with a medium beige head, very fine clinging lacing. Deep pine resin aroma, the whole forest in a glass, with notes of grass, grapefruit, some floral notes, and biscuit. Medium full bodied, smooth and creamy, gentle carbonation. Mild sweetness, a bit more sweetness and some bitterness picking up mid-palate, with an intensely flavorful bitter finish. A hop-head’s delight.

can. Pours murky orange with big yellow tinged white frothy head. Aroma of fruity hops, citrus i.e. grapefruit, but sweeter tones too, white grape, even mango. Mouth feel is 100% full bodied, thick, smooth, creamy, alcohol masked until the after breath in which it is slightly present. Flavors present a fruity hop blast, with some malt undertones noticeable, to a lasting bitterness which develops in intensity on the finish. The initial fruitiness reminds me of caramelized apple and pear, candied white grape, raw grapefruit, subtle apricot / mango. Bitterness is all citric, malts noticeable but hard to characterize. Overall very nice, I actually like it better than the gordon. I think this is the last for me to try of all the commonly available OB brews in stores, and it is a very nice one. Highly recommended for people who like IMP IPAs.

12 oz can from Bier Stein. Poured pretty much straight bright orange with a sticky and thick white head. Aroma is big orange citrus with notes of grapefruit and a more prominent than expected caramel malt smell. Flavor is pretty much the same, big orange and grapefruit but also too over caramel-malted for me. A decent beer but kind of like Dale’s Pale it disappointed me. I think I’ll stick with Gordon and Ten Fidy when it comes to OB brews.

Can: Pours a deep golden with good clarity and a white film. Clean citrusy aroma with a sharp pine note and sweet cookieish maltose. Creamy slick body. Fairly sweet throughout- honeyish maltose dominates with a brief inky bitterness. Not dry enough and one dimensional. Drinkable.

larsga (6929) - Oslo, NORWAY - AUG 8, 2010
Small white head. Hazy yellow body. Citric floral anise aroma with notes of resin and pepper. Dry-sweet orangey anise taste with meaty floral notes. Fullish body. Sharpish mealy somewhat hot mouthfeel. Bitter orangey mealy aftertaste with floral alcoholic notes. A bit too overpowering and harsh. Could use more restraint. (0.35l can, Olympen, Oslo.)

12 oz can from total wine. Pours a golden orange, a bit cloudy with a thick white head. Lots of lacing. Aroma is grapefruit, maltiness, and very hoppy. Taste is citrus grapefruit notes. Very hoppy and with a bitterness bite at the end. Palate is good. Medium mouthfull with a decent finish. Not the most drinkable. But very good anyway

Man, what a great offering. Pours hazed orange-straw into the glass, with a minimal ring of soap lacing left behind. Fresh citrus nose. Nice caramel malt, grapefuit, orange peel, citrus zest, and a whallup of fresh resinous peppering pine hops to finish off the back-palate. The body is chewy with a full body. A touch of alcohol at the very end of the pull, but otherwise, the 10% ABV is well-integrated. Thick, big and bold with lots of character, substance and complexity... just like I like my IIPA’s. Superb, really.

can: pours clear orange. Floral, grassy and hay arouma. Caramel and bready malts, cloying honey sweetness that’s just too much. Has a nice hoppy bitterness but balance is off. Finishes really boozey and astringent. bleh

Extremely bitter aroma and taste. Not enough of an actual flavor to counteract the bitter aftertaste.

Clear amber with a decent sized head. There is a strong pine aroma when the can is opened. The beer is strong and smooth. The flavor includes citrus and pine. Appears to be a combination of oranges, grapefruit, and a little lemon.
