COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Emphasizing that complexity of character can arise from simple elements, this ale is made with three malts and one hop. Its light amber color and slightly spicy malt character are derived from the use of German Dark Munich Malt and Rye Malt respectively. North American 2-row barley combines with the other grains to lay the foundation for the hop onslaught to come. Summit hops are used exclusively in the boil for bitterness, flavor and aroma but it doesnít end there. Post-fermentation dry hopping allows the 10% ABV monstrosity to gently coax the citrus rind and grapefruit aroma to join the 100 IBUs already present. This beer should greet you with a pungent citrus blast, provide a spicy yet round middle and finish with a brisk, clean bitterness. Columbus in early and mid kettle.
** This beer will now feature different hops in the massive dry hop every year.
2014 - Sorachi Ace, Mosaic, and Chinook. Incredibly complex mix of lemon zest, pineapple, red berries, peach, and a hint of dank earthiness.

Aroma: The nose is floral hops, some citrus, some malty notes
Appearance: A mostly clear golden-orange color with streaky lace
Flavor: The taste has a nice balance, leaning bitter, but moderate (plus) sweet as well
Palate: It has a medium texture, an oily feel, and a long duration
Overall Impression: This is a pretty solid IIPA, another very good beer from the Oskar Blues guys. Ripe and hoppy.

Thanks to Chalsk for the can. Pours a hazy orange with decent but quickly dissipating white head. Aroma is grapefruit and resin, some alcohol there as well. Taste is sweet with a nice bitter finish. Nice warming on the finish. Solid.

Can pours a hazy golden amber body with a small bone white head. Scattered lace is left on the glass. Aroma is sharp and pungent, with grassy, earthy, and herbal traits. I donít pick up any citrus notes but I do sense an odd note that is like wild onions. Really sharp on the palate. This one seems almost medicinal, and a sensation like biting into raw ginger takes your breath. Finishes dry, earthy, coarse, and raw. The Summit hops just donít work for me here. Interesting expereince from a brewery I like, but this one comes off as coarse and unsophisticated.

UPDATED: SEP 23, 2013 12 oz. can- Pours golden with a nice creamy head, aroma is piney hops and alcohol. The flavor tastes like a fresh hop ale that is amped up to Imperial status, very different and strong resinous flavors, somewhat overwhelming. Not for everyone, but I liked it.

This was the most expensive beer that Iíve ever bought out of a can, so I was glad that it was also the BEST beer that Iíve had from a can. Pours a clear dark yellow with a white head that leaves good lacing. Smells like BOOZE! and has a sweet floral scent from the hops. This one is balance PERFECTLY! Itís got a lovely sweetness to balance out those hops, and is very drinkable, which is dangerous when this beer weighs in at 10%. YUMMY IN MY TUMMY!

From can. The pine fumes from this one make me smile from immediate pour. Smells like a Douglas Fir in a glass. Pours a copper hue with decent head. This one is all imperial IPA and I love it. The Gordon Ale has too much caramel malt for this hophead. Gubna is right on the money! I would buy this regularly if available. At 10% you donít need much. Delicious. To get full effect though pour from can and swoosh a bit to open up the pine citrus tones. Scrumptious.

On tap at Brass Tap. Pours clear gold with copper hues and light tan head. The aroma is rich inviting sweet citrus goodness blending with a modest level of resiny grassy pine hops and a firm malt sweetness. The taste is full rich sweetness like the nose with loads of sweet citrus hop flavor backed by malt sweetness moving quickly into citrus and pine hop bitterness. All along and into the finish malt sweetness provides a pleasing balance to the load of hops. Fresh, crisp and very nice.

UPDATED: AUG 24, 2010 Can. Clear amber-orange with a small film of bubbles. Nose is acrid pine oil and white pepper, with some light pineapple and grapefruit. Flavor is pineapple, peppery rye, resin, minty citrus and light honeycomb. Medium body is smooth and tongue tingly. Well-hidden alcohol but a bit too much rye for me.
