COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Emphasizing that complexity of character can arise from simple elements, this ale is made with three malts and one hop. Its light amber color and slightly spicy malt character are derived from the use of German Dark Munich Malt and Rye Malt respectively. North American 2-row barley combines with the other grains to lay the foundation for the hop onslaught to come. Summit hops are used exclusively in the boil for bitterness, flavor and aroma but it doesn’t end there. Post-fermentation dry hopping allows the 10% ABV monstrosity to gently coax the citrus rind and grapefruit aroma to join the 100 IBUs already present. This beer should greet you with a pungent citrus blast, provide a spicy yet round middle and finish with a brisk, clean bitterness.

Can picked up at a small grocery store in downtown Philly and split with a friend. Darkish amber pour with a frothy white head. Very piney, citrusy hop aroma with just a hint of malt. Slightly more bready malt flavor, but it’s still all piney hops. Resinous, sticky mouthfeel. Good, but I won’t go out of my way to buy it again for the price point it’s at.

Aluminum can from La Mesa Market and Liquors: Poured a medium straw blonde with a thick topping of foamy head which eventually retreated. As for the nose, a funky smell of hops that has a smell of vegetables such as iceberg lettuce, fennel or cilantro that really has a gross aroma. It’s a really disturbing smell and I’m not sure if it’s because this Imperial IPA has been sitting in the aluminum can for to long on the shelf or what? Anyways, the flavor has the same disgusting taste of a bitter root vegetable that resembles a beet or the sharpness of a radish while a small hint of hops and malt make it across my palate. Way over priced and certainly not fresh. Too bad since this is a major penalty against companies who leave years old stock sitting on shelves.

can. Amber with small head. Big IPA with substantial bitterness. I’m not a huge fan of the hops that OB uses, they always seem more bitter than flavorful, but this is not bad at all.

Can from BrewDog Birmingham; clear copper pour with thin off white head, pine hop aroma, pineapple taste with tropical fruits very sweet with caramel, this is up my street.

This a a strong imperial ipa. Super malty with a nice bitter finish. Not much of an aroma. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours dark golden with lots of lacing and a little bit of head. Nose is pretty muted. Aromas of nuts, cereal, earthy hops. Tastes medium sweet and medium to heavy biterness. Full body with lively carbonation. A bit too far on the sweet spectrum for my liking, but still a solid beer.

I used to love this beer. They mellowed out the recipe recently to appeal to the masses. Apparently I am not those masses. I want the old Gubna back!

Very well rounded IPA. Deceptively strong, easy on the palate. Tangy, citrus, not overly zesty. Didn’t find it too resiny, but pine is certainly there. A deliciously highly recommended brew.

Well-rounded package. An iimperial IPA that sits in uncharted territory towards the barley wine category. Lots of citrus hops in aroma with some booze and tangy malt. Pours light clear orange with good head and lacing. Finish is bitter and tangy with a little spicy zest in there – very nice finish here. Great package, great beer – and who knows how old the can I had was. Chilled to perfection in the back of a toilette in Nuqui on the Pacific Colombian coast.

Can. Deep golden with white head. Aroma malty, sweet, caramel, chlorine, piney and fruity hops. Taste is rich and full, sweet, caramel, lots of hop notes with warming alcohol. Finish is long and very hoppy. Nice beer!
