COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our first lager produced with the 20 bbl brewhouse. This pilsner is a clear golden color. Four additions of Saaz hops lend a spicy-floral hop component.

This version was served via cask and aged on fresh ginger.

Draft from firkin at Bavarian Lodge ($6-13 oz). Big fresh ginger nose. Pils color with a bit of haze. Taste is big on those spicy and slightly sweet ginger chew. Not much actual beer taste can make its way through the ginger. Blame it in the already light taste of a pils beer, but I had to tick it down a point for that. But that’s the chance you take with these low-batch firkins, I guess.

Draft. Orange like aroma. A little bit of fruitiness. Mostly clear with a moderately sized white head. Taste is like vanilla cream soda. Meh.

Cask pour at Bavarian Lodge (Lisle, IL). Welcome to Chicago, Oskar Blues! Pours a richer hazed golden straw hue, yellow glow meets the eyes with a touch of dulled out qualities. A loose bubbled bigger head starts out, dies to a smaller film, laces ok. Aromas are Pils malts, bready and cereal with gentle dry and earthy hops. Grass, some gentle "Pils stink" as I like to call it, a touch of ginger, but not really much. It grows a bit more as it warms, a bit of lemon. Initial is lighter end of the fold, some brighter earthy hops show florals and grass, a touch of lemon. Bready malts, some fruit, and cereal grains. Firmer bitterness keeps ticking, some fresh ginger greets me, a touch spicy, giving more chase into the backend of things. Dry and clean, a touch fruity with a firm hopping and dry bitter earthy hop quality sticking around. The ginger is mellow at times and flashes at others. I’d say it’s done well, as I think it can get distracting quite easily. With that said, the backend and finish are dry, a touch spicy. Lingering hops, some ginger, and straw. Pretty solid offering here. I don’t remember giving Mama’s Yella a good score, but this beer is changing my mind. Fresh and clean, with some decent flavors and life. Nice brew.
