mjg74 (1800), La Mesa, California, USA Jul 17, 2008 Can from BevMo, La Mesa. Dark ruby/amber in color. Rich malty aroma. Very peaty with a hint of sweetness. Thick and malty up front. Some dark fruit. Malt dominates with some smokey qualities.
caesar (2573), Bunnik/Utrecht, Netherlands Oct 9, 2008 Tap @ brewpub. Clear dark cola color, short head. Thin aroma of malt, some caramel. Taste of some smoke, malt. Good malty body, which makes up for the thin aroma. jkaiser (114), USA Oct 8, 2008 This was the 17th beer I tried at Central Florida Beerfest 2008. I could taste yeast and it was very rich and full of flavor. tilldeath (29), Arvada, Colorado, USA Oct 8, 2008 dark brown almost opaque pour with a lasting tan head, lighter mouth feel which is something I prefer, light carbonation as well, another plus. Aroma of smoked wood and light alcohol, alcohol is not present at all in taste. slightly dry and a mild bitter finish. All around this is a very drinkable and beer. stefanje (593), (Santee) San Diego, California, USA Oct 8, 2008 12 oz can. Pours a dark brown with red highlights. The head is cream with lacing and good retention. The aroma is rich with black licorice, mocha and roasted malts. The taste is similar to the aroma. The mouthfeel is full, smooth and creamy. The finish is medium in duration with lingering black licorice. Overall: Another great beer in a can. Recommended. Sparky27 (595), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Oct 7, 2008 Can. Pours a clear dark reddish brown with one finger beige head and spotty lacing. Nose is sweet malt, and some smoky earthiness. Taste is caramel malt and molasses up front, chocolate and a touch of charred wood in the finish. Medium, smooth mouth feel. This is one of the best of the style that I’ve had so far. Good brew.
