Strong hit of rye in this. I remember a couple years ago when I first ran into rye IPAs. This would have been a great addition to that weekend. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Tap at acadia in tulip with commonmac. Light plum Color with 1 finger white head and good lacing. Appealing alcohol hop aroma. Grainy, malty, and more flat than expected. Heavy grain and dark bread elements. Doesn’t have the pop I hoped. The finish leaves something to be desired. A bit disappointed.

Can. Hazy deep amber beer, good cream colour head. Palate is crispy and a bit dry. The thin malts are unsurprisingly a little spicy and also bring a touch of cream. Mild orange hops, little pine. Light dry finish. Lacks the Oskar Blues wow factor, but it’s a perfectly serviceable beer.

Can shared with Lorna. It pours clear orange-amber with a decent white heads and some floaters. The nose is spicy, rich brown bread, earth, light toast, gingerbread, dull caramel and wood. The taste is bitter, toasty, rich spice, brown bread, resin, pine, varnish, earth, ginger, faint caramel and some alcohol warmth. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Good deal of gingerbread character. Rather nice balance of malt, bitterness and spice.

473ml can from Beermerchants

Pours dark copper orange with a thick white head. Aroma of malts, hints of rye, grass, sweetish toffee and caramel. Taste is sweet, grainy and crisp with hints of toffee, rye, caramel and bready notes. Finish is grainy, malty and sweetish with notes of spices, rye and caramel. A bit unbalanced, feels too sweet and grainy but somehow I still like this.

Murky rustic copper with a thin fizzy white head. Lovely nose full of toffee and some earthy spiciness. The flavor was a tad too spicy and earthy and peppery with a full breadth tone and calming toffee undercurrents. It’s fine, but a bit brash.

There’s a terrible dominant similarity among rye IPAs and this one us no different. Deep hazy orange red and a super glossy rocky head lesds to some spruce bitterness which isn’t overly complex or sustained in the finish.

Can from Cornelius. Hazy amber body with fairly sizeable yeast flecks floating around. Tight white head. No visible carbonation. Aroma of ginger biscuit, burnt sugar, pine and a hint of soy sauce. Flavour of grass, caramel, rye bread and spruce. Medium body with an oily texture. Soft fizz. Easy drinking for the ABV.

Served on tap in a tulip glass Appearance – The brew is served a lightly hazed copper color with a small off white foam sitting atop the brew. The head fades over a moderate time to leave tons of foamy white lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma of the heavy of rye and a bit of bread. Along with these aromas are some smells of grass and pine and a little bit of a dark fruit smell. Some spice aromas and a floral and herbal smell are there as well, but overall these only add a light note to the aroma. Taste – The taste starts out strong with a very smooth heavy rye bread flavor with just a hint of a hop flavor of pine and herb. As the taste advances the rye remains big and bold with some spicy flavors increasing as the taste advances to the end. Along with the spice increase comes an increase in the hop, which are rather light upfront, with herbal and earthy flavors really developing in the middle. Some pine and a little bit of a fruitiness comes to the tongue more toward the end of the taste, leaving a very rye and moderately dank hopped flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on creamier side with a carbonation level that is on the average side. For the big rye flavors the very creamy body is very nice really allowing those flavors to soak into the tongue. Overall – A very rye ale. A little bit more hop may have been slightly more appropriate for the style, but the rye was very nice. A thick and heavy rye beer more without the IPA quality.
