Oskar Blues Ten FIDY

Dark chocolate brown with a thin dark khaki head. Aroma of dark chocolate covered espresso beans, raisins and licorice. Full oily palate. Lots of bitter chocolate and coffee flavors with some nice roasty malt. Cool design and packaging boost the appearance to a five in my opinion. Nice little Impy Stout!

pitch black with minimal brown head. flat and punchy. smells of light smoke and eggs. malts shine through in the taste. enjoyable. awesome for a canned beer.

Can compliments of Sammy, this has been sitting around for much too damn long! The beer pours like motor oil with a deep black color. The head is minimal but brown and the carbonation (so far as I can tell) is mild to say the least. The aroma is plum chocolate raisin, some maple syrup and some mild hop character. The flavor is complex and awesome The beer immediately sets it’s self out form the RIS crowd by being remarkably fruity not just to style but pretty damn fruity in general. There are other flavors more commonly found in the style like Whiskey, chocolate, anise, and coffee. However it finishes with a light bready character! Man this is well balanced. I couldn’t have possibly asked for more from the palate, it was slick and full, enormously viscous, but smooth. What a wonderful beer.

This is what an Imperial Stout should look like! So dark that it’s black liquid with a massive head of chocolate colored foam, produced from a medium pour. Amazing retention and great lacing. Big chocolate and coffee notes mixing with sweet maltiness make this one truly inviting nose. Mild woody notes and a slight hoppiness. Hints of leather and caramel. Lots of dark chocolate flavor combines with dark roasted coffee beans. Bite of liquorice. Taste/smoothness of oatmeal. Leather shows up in the taste, also. Hint of vanilla and some charred oak. Slight hoppy bite at the end. Big, thick and oily in the mouth. As an Imperial Stout should be. Excellent. This is an excellent brew. I’m slowly getting turned around to the idea of canned beers being okay, not an abomination. If more breweries would produce canned beers on the quality level that Oscar Blues does, I’d have no problem with cans. Man, I could drink these all night long! Damn, I love a good stout.

Nose is dark and roasty, and maybe a tiny bit smoky? There’s some definite hop scent there as well, though it’s a bit faint, or at least masked by the big malt front. In the mouth, very thick, very complex. Nicely bitter, finishes with plenty of flowery hops on the tongue. Maltswise, it’s got plenty of chalky roasted malts notes. Some vague hints of dark chocolate, and maybe just a touch of the smoke that was in the nose? It’s just barely there, but you can detect just a touch of alcohol warmth at the end. Thick, oily, creamy, dense, with low but punctual carbonation. Very complex beer, yet still pretty drinkable. Very enjoyable.

Discount Liquor Milwaukee, Wi. 4pk cans $9.99. (11/13/09) Very dark to black in color. Chocolate nose. Taste chocolate at first, then coffee, followed by sweetness, with a bitter finish. Very tasty, I would buy again.

A canned beer for sipping OUT OF THE CAN into a snifter, let it warm up and enjoy. Caramel, herbs, chocolate, nice body, and great flavor. A grat beer to drink.

( 12oz can) pours blackest black with excellent lasting dark tan head and great coating of the glass. Nose is brownies, milk chocolate. Taste is sweet milk chocolate, cocoa and mildly bittering roasted hops. Finishes very creamy and roasty. As it warms the roasted coffee element becomes more apparent. This is a damn fine beer.
