bigrond (1043), factoryville, Pennsylvania, USA May 24, 2009 This was a very good stout. Almost a total blackness with little head at all. Dark and ink-like. Very similar to Old Rasputin.
I enjoyed trying it and will most likely have it again.
HOPSHUNTER (376), Tampa, Florida, USA May 21, 2009 12oz can. Poured a thick, oily black with a 2 finger, dense, dark brown head. Malts and alcohol are the aggressors in the nose with some notes of coffee. Flavor is burnt somewhat astringent malts with a sharp alcohol bite. Very creamy/oily mouthfeel with soft carbonation. As the beer warms some bitter chocolate becomes more apparent. Finishes with a good dose of hops bitterness. Good. Lothore (276), California, USA May 21, 2009 A- Pours a dark black hue letting very little light through. Deep reddish brown head which is absolutely decadent.
S- Smell consists of roasted malt and coffee. A bit faint.
T- Taste is predominately roasted malt, deep brown sugar notes, coffee.
M- Thick with medium carbonation.
D- This was a pretty tasty imperial stout. Not my favorite but it looks great and is very solid. VikingHammer (362), Lynnfield, Massachusetts, USA May 20, 2009 Pours like motor oil with a small brown head. Aroma of chocolate, caramel and coffee. Overall a very solid RIS. Velvet mouth feel and full bodied. SuIIy (1406), Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts, USA May 15, 2009 12 oz can. Pours a dark, thick oily black color with a small tan foamy head. Nose is chocolate malts with some dry bitter chocolate and a nice sweet hersheys note as well. kinda odd that all that contrasting odors is in there, but it is. Palate is thick and chewy with a nice mouth coating on the swallow. Flavors are chocolae with lots of roast dark malts and camp fire, smores kind of things going on. acblue (50), Seattle, Washington, USA May 14, 2009 Black with a creamy tan head; probably my favorite beer on looks alone. Somewhat light on aroma for the style; coffee and malt. Somehow sweet without a ton of chocolate in the flavor; molasses and coffee seem to be at the forefront. jredmond (1015), New Jersey, USA May 11, 2009 CAN. Pours blackish-brown engine oil body. Slight chocolate aroma. Palate is great - taste is extremely well balanced, ery sweet and no alcohol in the flavor whatsoever. Pwn3d (1040), Manhattan, New York, USA May 10, 2009 Can as image shows. Split with JRedmond. Pours like motor oil after about 10,000 miles of hard driving.. identical in both color and consistency. Nose is burnt roasted malt cocoa, sharpie pen, and Toasties. Taste is sweet with tons of malt. No indication of 9.4. Wondrous brew.
