Oskar Blues Ten FIDY

Canned into RIS style glass. As the moniker notes, it is as thick as Penzoil. I had 2 of these, one was really good and complex with all the great descriptions noted of chocolate, malt, coffee. The second can was bad, really flat and bitter in a not-good way. I have one more can, and will rerate accordingly after I open it. I was say the first can was a 4.2 and the second one was a 1.5.

Out of the can at Leon’s. Poured a thick, syrupy jet-black with a skim of a brown head that dissipated quickly and left little lacing. Aroma is a strong malty-choclate-toffee-coffee that hits the nose immdiately. The 9.4% ABV works its way into the nose at mid-glass. Mouthfeel is thick (too much for my liking) and syrupy. Taste, while reflecting the scents found in the nose, is somewhat overwhelmed by the syrupy sweetness. Finish is long, but somewhat like glue stuck inside your mouth. Summary, while I can taste the quality, I just can’t get as fired up as most for this carbonated chocolate syrup.

Pours like solid black silk into the glass. A big, thick, and dense dark brown head forms. The head remains, leaving behind rings of lacing. This beer smells subtly complex. Aromas of rich roasted malts and caramel can be gathered. It’s heavy on the palate, coating with a soft creamy and full bodied mouthfeel. Tastes of sweet caramel, deep roasted malts, and of course, dark chocolate. A beautiful beer. And it came from a can?!

This stuff pours a solid black like 10w40 out of an old oil can :D The nose is that of roast, chocolate, smoke, raisins, hints of alcohol. mouthfeel is real creamy, roasted chocolaty, silky smooth. Drinkability is very nice could do a few of these but with 10.5 abv I would be drunk. The alcohol is very well hidden. I cannot wait for this to come to texas. Thanks to tprokop7 for the one can. I’m quite certain that this is the best beer I’ll ever have out of a can (itself courtesy of mgermani), and I say that with deep reverence for this is a fine beer. Pours black, huge brown head with good retention and some lacing. Aromas of chocolate, resinous alcohol, toasted malt, and coconut. Flavour develops more coconut, sweet mash, resin, and dates. Thick, syrupy mouthfeel with little carbonation (but not unpleasant) and plenty of boozy warmth.

Outstanding stout from the frothy near brown head on the pour, to the dark cocoa earthiness of the aroma, to the medium roast malt body and light bitter finish of the flavor, and the luscious creamy full palate of this dark and sweet offering. Well balanced in all aspects with a slight favoring toward the sweeter side due to such a prominent dark chocolate presence. The viscosity in my opinion, along with the cocoa is what really makes this one special. Thanks Oskar Blues. 2008 12oz.

12 oz can (Thanks again and again Pawola22). The aroma is quite rich, yet balanced and not overly strong for a strong stout. The first things that hit the nostrils are a combination of roasted nutty bourbon and a barrel full of oatmeal. Other aroma notes that creep in there as well are powered chocolate, black malt grains, as well as some fruity notes of red apple and other medium fruits. It was quite interesting watching as I poured this beer from a can. Just something you don’t see everyday. A good creamy, dark caramel cream head , entirely dissipates, leaving only a sea of black (there’s actually some dark crimson around the edges). Caramel malts galore in the taste. Rich, roasted and nutty, but a ton of caramel malts mixed with dark/black grain malts to make a very malty malt beverage. Also, minor cocoa and some bitterness in the background. Consistency is full, not overly heavy for an imperial, quite smooth though, and good flavor projection. This is a good imperial stout, making it a very solid beer overall. It just might be alittle too malted malty if that makes sense. Still, good but not exceptional stuff.

Black like old motor oil. Not even a twinge of color at the edges when held directly to a 60w bulb. Dark brown head that barely wanted to foam despite a rough, splashing pour. Some dark roasted aromas, but sweet like caramel and toffee. Plenty of coffee and cocoa in there, too. A coating sensation of sharp but creamy dark caramel and the piney fragrance of alcohol. Finishes long and sweet and bitter all at once, with notable alcohol warmth.
