viet959 (68), , Georgia, USA Apr 7, 2009 Pours Black with nice thick head. Aroma - chocolate, roasted malts. Taste - Big sweet chocolate maltiness with some hops at the end to help offset the sweetness. Mouthfeel - Thick, rich, creamy. Overall - It’s a great beer but I could only drink one of them b/c it’s a little too sweet. But still very good. beernbourbon (236), chicago, Illinois, USA Apr 5, 2009 This looks scary comming out of the can. Thick, total black with a rich dense brown head. It looks amazing. The scent is chocolate, coffee, sweetness, and malt. Flavor is great, its thick, oily, and chewy. Flavor is chocolate, roasted malt, coffee, and a nice subtle hop finish. Great stuff. Syd (888), Waconia, Minnesota, USA Apr 4, 2009 Can pours thick, and I had to ratchet up the pour to see any head, but what did appear was the brownest head I’ve ever seen. The aroma is roasted and dark chocolate. The flavor is wow, like a dark chocolate malt with some coffee notes to bitter. The hops are there, but with such a massive sweet profile, it only serves as a balancing act. The palate is shake like. I’m tempted to hold the glass upside down to see if it stays in (OK, not really). Awesome. barleywine1 (11), Baltimore, Maryland, USA Apr 4, 2009 My friends and I refer to this as "motor oil." It’s jet black, has a lot of personality, and is full of malty chocolate and hops. I’m almost always in the mood for one of these. beergod (97), Houston, Texas, USA Apr 4, 2009 This Imperial stout pours black with a nice chocolate brown head. The nose is of roasted malt with hints of dark chocolate. Taste is much of the same. Great roasted malt, full bodied treat. High octane and tasty!! BroSpud (584), , Massachusetts, USA Apr 3, 2009 12oz can! It seems weird to me that I like this one as much as I do. It was one of my rare can purchases primarily just to add it to my ongoing can collection. But this is good. And looking at the other ratings it seems I am not alone. I’m not rating it as high as alot of other folks because I found it to be a bit too much on the sweet and syrupy side. I don’t know, maybe it’s the can but I can’t seem to bring myself to give it a higher rating than this. Maybe another tasting in the future is in order. Yes. I think it is. thefrutigers (100), , Arizona, USA Apr 3, 2009 Can: Poured thick and black, with a medium dark brown head. Smells of roasted malt and carmel. Flavor was similar and not overally alcohol with just the right finish. There was a very slight metallic flavor (very slight, but I noticed) Full body mouth feel. Overall, the best can beer I think I’ve ever had...ever! FlssmrBrewAlum (1079), Lisle, Illinois, USA Apr 2, 2009 Updated: Apr 3, 200912 oz can courtesy of Discount Liquors (Milwaukee, WI). Pours a a pitch black pour, motor oil thickness with decent brown cocoa head that spots and laces well. Aromas are a touch roasted malt, with chocolate, coffee, light vinous and dark fruit qualities, with a touch of warmth. Initial is full bodied, putting some good roast and sweet chocolate and molasses, with bittering hoppiness to a decent extent. Coffee, a good portion of vanilla, and a touch of cream. More bitter and than sweet, roast is moderate, a funny feel on the palate. Ok, a bit dissappointing.
