Oskar Blues Ten FIDY

12 oz can courtesy of Discount Liquors (Milwaukee, WI). Pours a a pitch black pour, motor oil thickness with decent brown cocoa head that spots and laces well. Aromas are a touch roasted malt, with chocolate, coffee, light vinous and dark fruit qualities, with a touch of warmth. Initial is full bodied, putting some good roast and sweet chocolate and molasses, with bittering hoppiness to a decent extent. Coffee, a good portion of vanilla, and a touch of cream. More bitter and than sweet, roast is moderate, a funny feel on the palate. Ok, a bit dissappointing.

Can... Poured black with a light, brown head. Dark fruits, malt and warming alcohol on the nose. Thick, syrupy palate. Grains and bready notes with earthy vegetables. Definitely noticeable hops and a clean dry finish.

Appearance: Pours jet brown with a foamy head that subsides to a think layer of tan froth. No lie, when you are pouring it into a glass, it really looks like you are pouring motor oil into your glass. The first time I had a can of Ten Fidy, it didn’t even pour head. Aroma: Roasted malts and caramel. Also whiffs of chocolate and dark fruit. Taste: Dark chocolate, dark fruits, roasted and burnt malts and a bit of hop spiciness. Mouthfeel: When you watch it pour, you can almost anticipate how thick this can be. Suprisingly it is still thinner than say Abyss, and Darklord. It feels mostly thick but not goopy. Overall: This beer rocks. It have a nice balance of malts, hops, bitterness and sweetness for the style. You might walk up to a four pack of canned beer and say "no thanks, four beers for $9 - 11.oo." These four beers (if you can) will make for a tasty and fufilling evening of beer drinking.

12oz can, pours black as the night with a huge dark tan head that fell off to a dark tan ring around snifter this black elixir occupies. Aroma is big coffee, chocolate roasted maltiness, very inviting. Flavor is malty, sweet, chocolate, fresh roasted coffee with cream and finishes very nicely with touches of dark chocolate and coffee. I do feel this one was a little thin for it’s gravity, but a very nice imperial stout non-the-less.

One of my favorite Impy Stouts in the world, in a can! Pours a thick black, like sludge. Aroma is strong roast and flavor is also strong roast, with just enough sweetness to make it taste delicious. I love this beer.

12oz can. Pours a jet black body with a big, two-finger width, dark chocolate brown head that dissipates quickly and remains heavily laced. Delicious looking stout! Aroma is big and bold. Lots of sweet, rich cocoa and roasted, bold coffees. A whole bunch of fat, but soft and sweet malts with some light notes of dried figs. Also a bit of hoppiness in the background really balancing out the bold chocolates and coffees. Very very very impressive aroma. The flavor is extremely bold, thick, and rich as well. Lots of roasted coffee...maybe a little too much, honestly. Very smooth and rich, dark chocolate puting a slow motion image of a spoon stirring a thick bowl of melted chocolate, then lifting out of the bowl and having a thick stream of melted chocolate ooze from the spoon as it rises. Lovely chocolate taste. Some molasses, figs, and deep woody hops come through right before the finish. The finish is very rich and cocoa sweet, but mostly a heavy coffee flavor that actually starts to give off a bit of smokiness. Some of the earthy hops make their way into the mix as well. A light, pleasing warmth reminds me not to drink this too fast as it goes down. Palate is surprisingly only medium bodied, slightly sticky, but mostly smooth before a subtle dryness kicks in. Overall, this could easily be in my top couple beers of all time if the coffee wasn’t so big. Believe me, I love this beer and could drink it endlessly...the rich, intense flavor/aroma and beautiful balance amaze me...but the SLIGHTLY over the top coffee keeps the rating down just a bit.

can. at pops house. definitely first impy from a can. pours gloriously dark with a deep tan almost red head. nose is chocolate, mouthfeel is so sticky, yet smooth and visceral. perfect carbonation, fresh, refreshing even though it is weighty chocolatey and heavy. a really great beer with a lot of complexity to it. dark chocolate, cholocate covered cherries.

2009 Can. One of the best imperial porters I’ve ever had. Dark, almost like burned engine oil with a mocha head. Smells of alcohol and deep, dark malts with very little coffee hints. No coffee flavor, no alcohol flavor, only a sweet malty goodness that is very, very easy to drink. A wonderful brew.
