Oskar Blues Ten FIDY

Woah. Had this as my welcoming brew to Colorado with JakeBra and Carythedude. I’m not sure if they drank it or watched me. Pours from the can like oil. Black pour with tan head. Aroma of chocolate, dark fruits, coffee, roasty malt. Flavor is delicious. Tons of chocolatey roasty coffee, some light sweetness. Hoppy, bitter finish. Mouthfeel is a bit thin, but otherwise amazing. Hopefully these guys send me some more soon.

Poured this from the can into a standard pint glass. The appearance was black with no light coming through and a nice brown head. Chocolate, coffee, cocoa and roated malt are in the aroma. The beer is thick on the palate with great flavor the same as the aroma with also being able to pick up some licorice and a slight alcohol burn.

There’s just something odd about pouring a big stout from a can...Ebony body is quite opaque in the glass. Small brown head diminishes to wispy lacing. Aroma is roasty malts, dark chocolate and coffee. A hint of dark fruits. Full bodied with subdued carbonation. Bittersweet chocolate and cocoa rule the flavor. A hint of coffee and dark fruits, with some earthy hops. An excellent impy stout but not world class.

Dark pour, very little head. Light aroma also. Mouthfeel is quite thick. Buttery taste with notes of dry malt. Not the best RIS I’ve had.

12 oz can, batch #4, brewed Jan. 29, 2009, sampled March 12, 2009: well the first swig of this beer had to come directly from the can...huge chocolate covered espresso bean flavours combined with banana butter and rich toffee. I would have just assumed drink the whole thing from the can, but decided I had to see what it looked like...pours with an enormous purple-brown, shaving cream lather head that leaves a thick laces 1.5 inches up the side of the glass. Black...perhaps one of 2 or 3 beers that has close to zero transparency, nothing gets through this abyss...it is mesmerizing how incredibly dark the body is. Luscious, creamy palate with tingly bubbles delivering subtle oily hop notes to the back of the tongue that compliment the sweet raisins, dark brown sugar/molasses and bittersweet milk chocolate flavours the continually bombard the senses. The flavours seem to blend together a bit near the end, but I think that may palate has just been abused by the relentless malty goodness that is 10w-50. Seemingly a gimmick-this beer, this imperial stout in a can, is anything but, this is greatly made stout and the well crafted malts will speak for themselves if you dare open one. Cheers!

Canned 12/22/08. Poured black with a dark brown head that left light lace. Aromas of toasted malts, bread and light alcohol. The flavor found milk chocolate, coffee, and roasted malt. Full body with a creamy texture. Sweet throughout yet a light roast aftertaste. Very nice!

Can via trade with Hellbilly. So, for whatever reason, I am just not getting my hands on this one. Interesting to see it pour from a can, I’ll say. Pours viscous and black with a dark orangey brown head. Nose is sweet, roasted grain, chocolate and a distinct floral hop note that comes through. Mild molasses and anise notes as well. On taste, supremely well hopped with it being hop forward and bitter, but not really acrid. Very well constructed and layered flavors. Some cocoa and coffee come through in the middle as well. Nice roasty finish that lasts. This is a super drinkable Imperial Stout and reminds me a ton of Storm King. I’ll need to get me more of this one, would love to try it with cherries...

Pours black with a thin dark tan head. Aroma of chocolate, dark fruit, alcohol, and coffee. Nice flavor, well balanced. A bit of an alcohol bite at the end. Great palate. Excellent.
