Oskar Blues Ten FIDY

strong spicy licorice and port fruit wine with chocolate and fresh straw malt flavor and caramel in the wine. roasted and moderate of body it is a kick ass substantial just right for now. medium brown head that is creamy like choco pudding. demonstrative indeed.

12 oz. can. Pours thick and black with a brown head with decent lacing, like all great imperial stouts do. Aroma is sweet with the standard coffee/chocolate profile. Hints of salted butter and toffee. Flavor is more tame than expected. Very smooth dark chocolate mostly. very little bitterness and nothing overpowering. A touch of alcohol. Not as sweet as expected. Typically full bodied stout mouthfeel. Doesn’t stand out for an Imperial stout but it is still very, very tasty.

Can. Pours a thick, dark black color with a brownish head. Great looking beer, especially considering its from a can. Nose is strong coffee and dark chocolate flavors as well as a nice amount of smoke. Excellent, syrupy mouth feel. High amount of alcohol is barely discernible.

Surprising amount of cocoa brown froth from the relative lack of carbonic hiss upon opening, dark brown-black hue with chunks of lacing on the glass. Nose is sweet cocoa, brown sugar, molasses, coffee. Flavor is more sweet chocolate than bitter coffee, very reminiscent of Wendy’s frosty with tinges of fudge brownie, light grassy hops, and low hop bitterness, syrupy sweet extract, finishes sweet bitter dark chocolate. Points off for significant lack of carbonation and flatness. A good chocolate base that falls short due to syrup-like flavors and lack of carbonation; drinkable depsite the abv, I imagine this would be much better on draft than in the can.

APPEARANCE: Pours a obsidian black color with a small brown head that dissipates a slowly. Small amount of lacing. AROMA: Molasses, chocolate and alcohol. FLAVOR: Rich roasted malt and molasses. Alcohol is the next thing I notice. Lots of other subtle flavors come though as you drink it. Earthy hops, bittersweet chocolate, dark fruits (prunes). MOUTHFEEL Full body beer with a syrupy texture. Light fizzy carbonation. DRINKABILITY: Smooth and sweet with some bitterness for balance. The syrupy sweetness (and alcohol) makes it hard to drink too much. NOTES: BBCSD-0901-Dan

"after 3 Oskar beers, i’ve come to the conclusion that they all hide their alcohol very well! this one is over 10%, but you wouldn’t know it. massive malt flavor and aroma, and the high ibu’s are indeed well hidden, but that makes this a complex beer, to say the least. looks near perfection...black as night, dark chocolate head, leaving a thin lace. BIG flavor of roasted, malted chocolate, hop balance. Quite good. Nice finish too. So far, every beer i’ve had from here is well over a 4...maybe the only brewery i can say that for. I’ll have to find more of their stuff...2/09 man that’s a roasty aroma...cant get much better."

unique in that there is some bitter quality on the front/top of the tongue but sweetens a touch on the finish. very sweet and malty overall, but full flavored. A touch acidic on the backend, too. Overall, very sweet, almost a dessert beer. reminds a bit of Dogfish Head’s world wide. Very drinkable world class beer.

Purchased a year ago from, "By The Bottle" in Vancouver, WA. But, acquired most recent can from, "hannont". Oskar Blues is showing up in the Portland, OR market; hopefully Ten Fidy is on the way! Colour... pours as black as 10W-50 that’s been in the crankcase of a San Juan Mts. Jeep for 50K miles! The head is thick, tan and frothy. Nose... cold, black coffee, cocoa mass, malt balls and hops. Palate... ohhhhhh... where to begin with this corpulent stout? Let’s start with the immensely mouth coating "texture". Yes! Texture. I figure that this is technically a solid because it’s so incredibly THICK! Flavours of darkly roasted Sumatra coffee, chocolate malts, bittersweet French chocolate, cocoa solids and plenty of hops to balance it all out. All the flavours echo brilliantly on the looooooong finish! One added note.... this stout is so well balanced, it doesn’t seem anywhere near 10%ABV; but you better stay away from the heavy machinery, nonetheless!
