allfreej (358), Louisville, Kentucky, USA Feb 15, 2009 On tap at The Big Hunt, Washington, DC. I might have rated it lower from a can, but on tap, this stuff is dynamite! Pours black, with a dense brown head. Thick lace that hardens into a crust. Appearance of burnt motor oil. Nose is huge--coffee, chocolate, smoke. Falvor is malt, chocolate, coffee, smoke, malted milk balls, earth, alcohol, unbelievably complex. Thick, viscous, sweet, fillinf, shifting hues of flavor, over-the-top strong. I couldn’t have survived more than one pint of this stuff! adavis234 (133), Columbia, South Carolina, USA Feb 12, 2009 12 oz can. Deep black body with a thick, lingering, chocolate colored head. Chocolate and roasted malt aroma with coffee and alcohol notes as well. Cocoa chocolate flavor with a bit of a roasted coffee flavor and a tingling finish of alcohol and aluminum (from the can). A delicious, surprisingly smooth chocolate stout. SDalkoholic (1186), Chula Vista, California, USA Feb 11, 2009 Can from South Bay Drugs: Such the most blackest stout I have witnessed in a long time. Creates a huge abruption of violent dark brown colored head while a sweet and strong dark chocolate fills the aroma occupies my area. There are instant flavors of tartness which then leads to a sweet blend of chocolate and roasted down black malts. The drink is easily consumed but lacks a more fuller and creamier palate but I’m overly surprised that this imperial stout came from a can. Doppelganger (1353), Dry County, Arkansas, USA Feb 10, 2009 Can, thanks to Alaskanwarren for this one. Opened for our "Reeser Got Married" tasting. Oily black, deep red-tan head. Bright salty licorice and sea air nose. Oily chocolate and cocoa powder flavor, intense and demanding. Ultra thick, full mouthfeel, giving that gorgeous melting chocolate sensation. Full, but without too much sticky. A pleasant Imp all around, but the mouthfeel--that’s truly fine. Thanks Brian! nickd717 (1276), Palo Alto, California, USA Feb 8, 2009 Updated: Sep 10, 2009Can at City Beer Store in SF. A good beer but definitely not a standout for the style. Black color, dark brown head. One of the darkest heads I’ve seen in a beer. Aroma was roasted malt, coffee, and some hop bitterness. Flavor was more of the same, maybe a hint of dark fruit, bitter cocoa, and slight metallic notes. Smooth on the palate. Alcohol noticeable but not too much for the ABV. Coltrane (108), South Carolina, USA Feb 6, 2009 Updated: Apr 11, 2009Incredibly drinkable Imperial stout with a fair amount of roasted notes that are more coffee than chocolatey. Super smooth mouthfeel, almost shockingly so.
My favorite ’readily’ available imperial. Maybe just my favorite in general. 21iceman40 (1731), vienna, West Virginia, USA Feb 6, 2009 So i had this for breakfast at the foodery in philly the other day and it was excellent. Great way to start the day, with a very thick chocolatey stout that had its fair share of hops and some coffee alongside. Best thing to come out of a can that ive had in a while. zappafan99 (462), South Carolina, USA Feb 4, 2009 Taste 2/9 Can. Looks: Dark and opaque w/tan head. Aroma: Nice mild dark fruit with the roasted and toasted malt bitter coffee and chocolate. Taste: To style, nothing off and nothing fabulous. Good and smooth. Seems to have a freshness. Quite drinkable with little alcohol taste.
