SamGamgee (1396), Santa Cruz (La Selva), California, USA Jan 20, 2009 Draught at The Big Hunt. Super dark with a brown head that leaves some oily swirls in a couple minutes. Rick chocolate mousse, coffee and hoppy aroma. Some alcoholic fruit, dark chocolate, and a good hop presence. Thick and smooth. Nice imperial stout. The components seem a bit at odds at times, but it mostly comes together quite well. JaBier (1130), Capital City, Ohio, USA Jan 20, 2009 12oz can sampled at the Hopsnobbery Collective stout tasting on 1.16.09. Pours black with a medium light brown head. Malty aroma of chocolate and coffee with a bit of hop. Semi-sweet chocolate and malt flavor with a coffee and hop finish. Awesome stuff. steview (901), Los Angeles, California, USA Jan 15, 2009 this is definitely an imperial stout--motor oil pour, super thick head, etc., yeaup... thick’n’smooth and surprisingly altogether, but not without some intrusive notes of vinegar like balsamic, too bitter chocolate, heavy cream, and alcohol--not altogether, really. discogoatboy (15), , Florida, USA Jan 15, 2009 Has to be one of my favorite beers. It’s seriously just phenomenal. Well disguised alcohol and bitterness. Pours as black as the darkest night, but has a taste much better than the night could ever have. Out of the stouts that I have tasted this one, in my book, is right behind bell’s expedition stout. ahmashar (5), Stafford, Texas, USA does not count Jan 15, 2009 Updated: Feb 18, 2009This beer does nothing but add to my repect for Oskar Blues. Thick, dark syrupy pour with head the color of hot chocolate, not much aroma, but deep, deep flavor. A little too thick on the palate (barely), but not a deal breaker by any stretch of the imagination. SudsMcDuff (1691), was CapeTown,SA-now Houston, Texas, USA Jan 13, 2009 ok..used motor oil, thats what this is... any car person knows whats up... It’s Sunday, fuckin sunday, your one day off a week and you fuckin deserve it. You work hard and you play hard, not only that you motherfucking drink hard too... Ten Fidy is the choice tonight... your crest on your chest, the dark black stuff is smooth, maybe too much so... I want to see this beer in the mainstream... on racing cars in the strets of milan, david beckham shotgunning tins on the corner, the pope doing cartwheels in a Farrelly brother movie starring brad pitt ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GplLqg-EwoI ) and the olson twins in heat.. . this beer is good..there.. dark as the night, tasty as hell, great aftertaste and such.. buy it ..worms..I got worms! We’re gonna specialize in selling worm farms...thank you oskar blues.. great brews all around..axiom-carpe noctem... Come on United!!.. incutrav (576), Woodbury, Minnesota, USA Jan 12, 2009 Black as Black. Lots of sweet, dark fruit. Some coffee aspects, along with a tinge of bitterness. Ive drank a lot of RIS this year, and there wasnt much to make this one stand out. Only got down a few ounces before coming upon a giant glob of black gook, down the drain went the rest. I know it wont harm me, but it was gross.Obivously this was from the unfiltered batch. baggio (195), norrtälje, Sweden Jan 12, 2009 Can@home
Apperance: Dark as a black hole with a good sized, brown, head. A bit of lacing too.
aroma: Milkchocolate (lots!), Coffee, Roasted malts, Grain.
Flavor: Chocolate, Bitter coffee, Dark caramel, Hint of vanilla.
Palate: Extremely thick and robust. Medium carbonation. Initial feeling is sweet and intense but at the end you feel the 98 ibu’s kicking in and balacing it out.
First imperial stout in a can i’ve tried and what a great start. I am lucky 2 have a couple of more of these sitting in my fridge. Recommended!
