Travlr (700), Washington, Washington DC, USA Dec 11, 2008 The best thing to come out of a can since Guinness with a widget. Oil can black and thick, smoky and creamy, with chocolate and caramel. Best beer of the night, even if you count the Three Floyds tasting later that evening. travita (1865), Frisco, Texas, USA Dec 10, 2008 Black as midnight in color with not too much its darker tan colored head. Smell is dark chocolate, roasted and toasted malts, coffee, oats, and more. Taste is bitter, coffee, chocolate, malts, and goodness. Pretty good. nightrider (370), encinitas, California, USA Dec 9, 2008 Poured from a can was a pitch black oil with a good mocha tan head. The color from the can is awesome.Smells of sweet cocoa, malt, and caramel. The mouthfeel is thick smooth and rich. Flavors are very good with solid bitter hops , coffee, and molasses. Great long finish. Killer brew!! DalzAle (476), Eden Prairie, Minnesota, USA Dec 8, 2008 Received via a trade with Beerlando. Poured extremely thick and syrupy into a pint glass, very thin oatmeal colored head. Noticable chocolate and alcohol aroma, but not overpowering. First sip tasted slightly smoky with a coffee aftertaste. Slight taste of alcohol, but in a good way. Will definitely try to get this one again sometime.. graham515 (420), Houston, Texas, USA Dec 8, 2008 Updated: Dec 12, 2008Pours an inky, viscous black ooze into the glass with a dark brown head. Aroma is chocolaty with some coffee notes. This beer is extremely sweet. I dont get a good balance of coffee and roasted grain so much as I get intense chocolate sweetness. Really good beer but overhyped for me Headdogfish (6), Newark, Delaware, USA does not count Dec 6, 2008 Was lucky to find this on tap. 12 oz snifter arrived with a black liquid topped with mahogany colored head. First sip gave a rich chocolate, malt and caramel flavor. A bit of burn in back of throat. Very nice sipping ale. kidmartinek (972), austin, Texas, USA Dec 6, 2008 My gosh. This is ridiculous. Black beer with some good foam. Strong aroma. The taste wil kick you crazy. Incredibly strong sweet plum and alcohol flavor with a dash of stout malt. Rich, smooth, and deadly. You know its kicking your ass but your cant see it through the fog of all the smoothness. Can you tell by how coherent that just was. Rich sweet finish. glennmastrange (810), hobe sound, Florida, USA Dec 5, 2008 Can. Heavy malt aromas of toasted, molasses, coffee and dark bread, moderate hops and yeast aromas of resin and earth, with raisin, charcoal, cola and alcohol. Head is small, creamy, light brown with fair lacing and is fully diminishing. Color is black as tar. Flavor is moderately sweet and lightly acidic to start, then the extra long finish is lightly sweet and acidic and moderately bitter. Palate is full bodied, sticky/syrupy and the carbonation is almost flat. It finishes dry and lightly astringent. Drinking this Imperial Stout is like having a carnival in your mouth...in a good way.
