Poured extremely thick and syrupy into a pint glass, very thin oatmeal colored head. Noticable chocolate and alcohol aroma, but not overpowering. First sip tasted slightly smoky with a coffee aftertaste. Slight taste of alcohol, but in a good way. Will definitely try to get this one again sometime.. graham515 (424), Houston, Texas, USA

Aroma is chocolaty with some coffee notes. This beer is extremely sweet. I dont get a good balance of coffee and roasted grain so much as I get intense chocolate sweetness. Really good beer but overhyped for me Headdogfish (6), Newark, Delaware, USA does not count | 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Dec 6, 2008 Was lucky to find this on tap. 12 oz snifter arrived with a black liquid topped with mahogany colored head. First sip gave a rich chocolate, malt and caramel flavor. A bit of burn in back of throat. Very nice sipping ale. kidmartinek (975), austin, Texas, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 6, 2008 My gosh. This is ridiculous. Black beer with some good foam. Strong aroma. The taste wil kick you crazy. Incredibly strong sweet plum and alcohol flavor with a dash of stout malt. Rich, smooth, and deadly. You know its kicking your ass but your cant see it through the fog of all the smoothness. Can you tell by how coherent that just was. Rich sweet finish. glennmastrange (837), hobe sound, Florida, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 5, 2008 Can. Heavy malt aromas of toasted, molasses, coffee and dark bread, moderate hops and yeast aromas of resin and earth, with raisin, charcoal, cola and alcohol. Head is small, creamy, light brown with fair lacing and is fully diminishing. Color is black as tar. Flavor is moderately sweet and lightly acidic to start, then the extra long finish is lightly sweet and acidic and moderately bitter. Palate is full bodied, sticky/syrupy and the carbonation is almost flat. It finishes dry and lightly astringent. Drinking this Imperial Stout is like having a carnival in your mouth...in a good way. Pours a deep syrupy black, with dark brown forthy head. The apperance makes my mouth water. Bitter dark choclate, roasted coffee, smoked malt, plums, raisins, cherry, toffee, and hints of vanilla. This is a great dessert beer. The mouth feel is thick and silky, very good! JasonG (700), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Nov 27, 2008 12 oz can - pours a totally opaque black color with smallish dark brown head w/ red highlights. Aroma is full of toasted caramel, hazelnuts, roasted molasses, raisens, ash, figs, highland scotch. Flavor is full of roasted malts, caramel, touch of cherry, dry ash, herbal hops, with a bracing and slightly metallic bitterness. A very nice brew overall. The metallic note at the finish is the only downside. I think that this would be stellar if laid down for a couple of years. DYCSoccer17 (2189), Davis, California, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Nov 26, 2008 12 ounce can purchased at the Davis Food Co-Op. Aroma has a very nice balance of sweet chocolate along with some molasses and some roastiness that is coffee-like. Very pleasant. Body is a thick, oily, opaque black color with a nice brown head, nice lacing, and nice legging. Very attractive brew. The flavor of this mirrors the aroma...some sweet chocolate flavors present themselves up front. This is followed by some roasted, burnt, coffee-like flavoring. Light leather notes. Ethanol is hidden well. This is very silky, smooth, and dangerously drinkable. I can see why this is so highly rated.
