IlanMan (816), Appleton, Wisconsin, USA Jun 15, 2008 Thanks to Keith for this brew. This had the darkest pour I had ever seen. I did all I could to get a head but only got about a half a centimeter which was again the darkest head I had ever seen. Aroma was of sweet roasted malt, burnt malt, molasses, and licorice. Flavor was incredibly full with an up front roasted character mellowing out a little more with coffee, chocolate, more sweet malt, and a light bitter finish. Very well blended brew. I didn’t notice any alcohol either. Very well hidden. Very nice brew. Would buy again. peter (385), Dallas, Texas, USA Jun 14, 2008 Very light carbonation. Strong roasted flavour. A bit to much black patent bitterness for my taste. Smoothed out as it warmed, and was near milk stout at room temperature. grandridge (222), Port Clinton, Ohio, USA Jun 13, 2008 No pressure as I popped the top but it looks like someone put motor oil in my beer can. Pours like used motor oil too with a dark brown head. Chocolate and roast descibe the aroma. First sip had a slight metal flavor but that was quickly dominated by the massive roasted and dark chocolate flavors. Actually I like it for an impy stout. It’s not as big as some but it is smooth. Guinness4Duff (507), Tallahassee (and Poconos, PA), Florida, USA Jun 13, 2008 Can. Very black, very thick pour with a small creamy dark brown head. Rich aroma of roastd coffee, sweet caramel and bitter chocolate. Initial acidic taste of dark fruits, plums and red grapes is quickly swept away by a deep powerful roasted chocolate flavor that finishes with a burnt bitterness that doesnt go away. Really good. stefanje (937), (Santee) San Diego, California, USA Jun 13, 2008 12 oz can courtesy of Malcolm at the BA speedway line tasting. Black pour with a tan head. Aromas of coffee, anise and dark fruits. The flavor features burnt malts, mocha and coffee. The mouthfeel is nearly flawless, its smooth and creamy. The finish is long with lingering dark chocolate. Overall: Very nice concoction. Very appreciated. gsteph (263), knoxville, Tennessee, USA Jun 12, 2008 Updated: Oct 8, 2008Pours thick and inky black, like motor oil about 3,000 miles past a change. One finger, dark, whipped chocolate mousse like head. Nose is luscious...malt, milk chocolate and mild coffee. The more it warms the alcohol becomes more present. Under forty-five degrees it is undetectable. Flavor is silky smooth. I was taken aback. No bitterness at all for 98 IBU’s but there is some viscosity. This is masterfully concocted. A liquid love potion of hershey’s syrup, medium roast coffee, semi-sweet cocoa powder, vanilla, a dusting of scorched sugar with a mild charred oak finish. This could be mistaken for a hefty chocolate milk mixer. Big body, thick and satisfyingly rich. There is the undeniable smoothness, no doubt derived from the oats, the flavor is explosive. I can’t really do it much justice with words. lebshiff21 (85), Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 12, 2008 12oz. can from Capone’s in East Norriton.
Super thick & dark - just like motor oil. Pours with barely any head, the ring that’s there is a dark brown.
Coffee and chocolate dominate, malty & creamy. Alcohol is hidden well, you really only need one. blazingspiral (39), Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA Jun 10, 2008 The blackest, thickest, scariest. It oozes slowly out of the can and into the glass. There it sits, with a small brown head, thinking dark thoughts about you, and proudly emitting an aroma of burnt and roasted things. The texture of this stout in your mouth is like the rich soil in the deepest, dankest part of an ancient forest. It tastes as hoppy and malty as any brew could ever taste. Rich chocolate and strong coffee come out on top, with a hefty amount of bitter hops to round it out. Drink with caution, and reverence.
