TheBeerGod (3143), Newport News, Virginia, USA May 28, 2008 Canned. Finally got my hands on this! Jet black pour. Thick mocha colored head. Nose is very hoppy with dark, roasted malts, licorice hints, bittersweet, dark chocolate, and coffee. Taste is sweet malts, roasted malts, chocolate, oily coffee, hops, light licorice and maybe chocolate candy, as it started to get soft of sweet even with the hops. Body is thick and chewy with dense carbonation and some oily slickness. Ends with more roasted malts, chocolate milk, candy, hops, licorice, oily coffee and sweet maltiness. Yummy! jerc (3861), Toronto, Ontario, Canada May 28, 2008 2005-05-24. Pitch black body with a small brown head leaves a brown film on the glass. (4+) Modest cocoa and roast in the aroma, under layer of malt. Roast bitterness and modest coffee notes throughout the flavour. Light hoppy bitterness as well, malty base essentially serves as a base for the roasty overtones rather than offering much nuance of its own. Rich finish of mocha-roast begins with some hops. (8+) Smooth medium to full bodied palate. I am left a bit torn; It was really quite nice, but whether it was just the excitement of getting my first cross-border growler fill or something else I had hoped for even more greatness so I was mildly disappointed even with such a nice stout. Damn expectations! Growler from Consumer’s Beverages, Buffalo
pforei (338), USA May 27, 2008 Dark black with moderate, dark brown head. Malty aroma of roasted powdered chocolate and faint grapefruit hops. Some licorice and then hop bitterness cuts through the malty taste; ending in a bitter finish. Body is full and mellow with not much carbonation. Slightest touch of oil on the palate. mcbackus (725), Merritt Island, Florida, USA May 27, 2008 can: pours of cours very black with a small tan head teh diminishes quickly into a thin line. aroma is very nice with real rich raost that is not to burnt and smooth chcolate. it seems as if i am getting some fresh hop aroma also.
the flavour is very bold raosted coffee adn dark chocolate. a good dry palate. the finishes is like dark chcolate syrup. all teh dark roast hides what little hops i get. Enjoyit (1697), Vadum, Denmark May 27, 2008 Black with a nice longlasting brown head. An aroma with roasted malt, liqurice, coffee, dark chocolate and hops. A flavor of liqurice, roasted malt, chocolate and hops. A very nice stout! JK54B (913), Helsinki, Finland May 26, 2008 Color like used motoroil. Wet cardboard inthe nose. Darc coffee and bitter chocalate in the taste. Very soft and creamy. KingpinIPA (842), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA May 25, 2008 Dark color. Looks like I am pouring oil out of a can. Smell of malt, chocolate, hops, pine, caramel, coffee, dark fruit, alcohol, smoke, cake batter and candy milk chocolate. Taste the same but more robust flavor. Wonderful roasted coffee and chocolate. AllAboutStout (605), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA May 25, 2008 Pours about as dark brown/black as you can get. Very rocky, brown head forms on top. Smell is roasted malt and milk duds. Taste is huge! Very roasted malts, and I mean roasted. Charred might even be a better term. Full, creamy and very velvety on the mouthfeel. This has a close feel as a weak milkshake as you can get. This would be very complimentary to a good dark dessert. Can’t get over the amount of roast, chocolate and coffee that is here. Over the top, but good beer.
