BeerGestapo (725), Windsor, Pennsylvania, USA May 18, 2008 Updated: Jun 13, 2009(USA) Beer courtesy of AFI96, Thx Waylo. Color is black as night with med brown head. The aroma is of malty chocolate, vanilla, and some hoppy notes. And the taste is thick with a pine needle bitterness, dark fruit and a sweet mocha mouthfeel. Really good stuff from a can, The beer gets better as it warms up !!! Great job Oskar Blues. jcweaver (65), VA Beach, Virginia, USA May 18, 2008 Poured the 2007 version from a can. Poured like its name with a small but lasting head. Tastes of malts and more malts but nicely balanced with hops. sayravai (3720), Helsinki, Finland May 18, 2008 (Canned) Extremely black with a small, but lasting, brown head. Aroma of roasted coffee, salty licorice, no alcohol. Very smooth, very licoricey, very coffee-malty flavor with milky sourness, but not much burnedness. Medium to full-bodied, moderately bitter palate with soft carbonation. A very smooth and balanced Impy with no alcohol flavor and the blackest color possible. Davinci (295), Chicago, Illinois, USA May 18, 2008 Can thanks to Beercellar. Holy S@#T, I cant believe this just came out of a can!!! Beautiful black pour with chocolatey brown head, which sticks around quite a while. Big coffee and chocolate on the nose. Flavor is the same with a good roastiness and some awsome piney hop bitterness. This ranks up there with some of my favorite impy stouts. TBone (6675), Pori, Finland May 18, 2008 Can
Pitch black, small brown head. Coffeish. tarry, milky aroma. Full-bodied. Very tarry, roasted, some hops and very burned flavor. As well as aroma, flavor has milky notes. There is also some vegetably flavors. A bit sticky. Aftertaste had licorice, coffee and alcohol. LouieDog40oz (28), Germantown, Maryland, USA May 17, 2008 When you drink this beer you will not believe that it is from a can yet alone one without a wiggett... this almost matches up to my favorite stouts bells and dogfish so if you enjoy those you will enjoy this. afireinside96 (807), Mountville, Pennsylvania, USA May 17, 2008 can. though it is a very nice imperial stout, it may be the weakest beer from Oskar Blues. pours exactly like used motor oil, thick dark brown with a few dark brown bubbles floating on top. smell is of espresso, anise, and roasted malts. flavor is much the same with some piney hop bitterness and a slight creaminess. mouthfeel is thick and coating, the bitterness is detectable for minutes after the last sip. very good, but not as good as Ol’ Chub or Gordon. FatPhil (3443), Espoo, Finland May 17, 2008 330ml can (Pikkulintu, Helsinki, Bitter and Sour 2008)
Jet black, thick creamy espresso head. Sweet bacony aroma - bacon fat at that. Some coffee too. Fairly soft palate. Immediately on swallowing it assaults all corners of the mouth frantically. Wild stabs at oiliness, tar, coffee, hops, and ashtrays all jump in and out of focus. At best it’s a great impy, at worst it’s a little bit over the top but not offensive. Perhaps a bit astringent if you don’t expect the next sip, but the rest of the time it smothers and coats the tongue in a horribly tempting way. So full of coffee. Sure, there’s alcohol too, but I’ve got to forgive them because of the rest of the experience.
