LouieDog40oz (28), Germantown, Maryland, USA May 17, 2008 When you drink this beer you will not believe that it is from a can yet alone one without a wiggett... this almost matches up to my favorite stouts bells and dogfish so if you enjoy those you will enjoy this. afireinside96 (817), Mountville, Pennsylvania, USA May 17, 2008 can. though it is a very nice imperial stout, it may be the weakest beer from Oskar Blues. pours exactly like used motor oil, thick dark brown with a few dark brown bubbles floating on top. smell is of espresso, anise, and roasted malts. flavor is much the same with some piney hop bitterness and a slight creaminess. mouthfeel is thick and coating, the bitterness is detectable for minutes after the last sip. very good, but not as good as Ol’ Chub or Gordon. FatPhil (3449), Espoo, Finland May 17, 2008 330ml can (Pikkulintu, Helsinki, Bitter and Sour 2008)
Jet black, thick creamy espresso head. Sweet bacony aroma - bacon fat at that. Some coffee too. Fairly soft palate. Immediately on swallowing it assaults all corners of the mouth frantically. Wild stabs at oiliness, tar, coffee, hops, and ashtrays all jump in and out of focus. At best it’s a great impy, at worst it’s a little bit over the top but not offensive. Perhaps a bit astringent if you don’t expect the next sip, but the rest of the time it smothers and coats the tongue in a horribly tempting way. So full of coffee. Sure, there’s alcohol too, but I’ve got to forgive them because of the rest of the experience. lamas (709), Adams Morgan, Washington DC, USA May 16, 2008 Can. A heavy, motor oil-thick pour with a small dark-mocha head. The rich aroma features plenty of roasted coffee, chocolate, vanilla beans and hints of alcohol. Tons of grapefruits and pine needles along with more milk-chocolatey notes come out as it warms up a bit. Super-smooth and thick, creamy body. Starts off with lots of rich dark chocolate, roasty coffee, caramel and some vanilla. Finishes with a massive hoppy bitterness that lingers along with the subtlest hint of warming alcohol. Powerfully good shit. Gachupines (290), USA May 16, 2008 Black with a dark tan head. Aroma is of chocolate. Taste is chocolate and roasted malt. Some bitterness in the finish, but overall fairly smooth compared to some Imperial Stouts. Quite good, and doesn’t have the strong alcohol bite that sometimes goes along with this style. mjs (1446), Helsinki, Finland May 16, 2008 (Can at Pikkulintu on 2008-05-15) Black. Brown big head. Chocolate and roasted malts in nose. Roasted malts, chocolate, hops and some alcohol in taste. rocbyter (902), Waterbury, Connecticut, USA May 16, 2008 Malt and light roasted aroma. Black color with a small brown head. Smooth malt taste in the beginning with a bitter malt finish. Creamy palate. hoptimus (50), Grand Island, New York, USA May 15, 2008 On tap from consumers. Pours as dark as any beer I’ve ever poured. Beautiful to look at. The mouthfeel is as thick as it looks, almost creamy. Taste has more sweetness than most other imperial stouts that i’ve tried with cane sugar, rosted malt, coffee and some chocolate. Very delicious. The aroma is quite sweet, but not as pungent as one might hope for with the style. Overall an excellent brew.
