Skeegle (476), Maryland, USA May 7, 2008 This is one super exceptional ale. Extremely smooth for how humongous it is. It doesn’t burn and the alcohol is just faintly there. It’s thick and chewy in the same way Expedition is, perhaps even more so. Super thick body, heavy, but only when cold, warm and it is silky and medium. Fantastic. DrnkMcDermott (1832), Downers Grove, Illinois, USA May 6, 2008 Updated: May 9, 2008Tasted from can at Flossmoor’s pre-DLD day. "The darkest beer in a can," someone said. Guinness, maybe? Anyway, I’m tasting this right after a swig of Peche Mortel, the only thing that this would taster "lighter" than. A tad sweeter than your imperial type beers. Shows nice character of coffee and milk chocolate to make the alcohol burn a little easier going down. Ends up tasting like a big sip of coffee-flavored syrup. TheCaptain (526), Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA May 5, 2008 Can and on Tap courtesy of State Line Liquors. Dark pour and I mean really dark. Brown frothy head that left quickly with a sticky lacing. An aroma of rich chocolate
malt, coffee beans. Butter like texture on the pallet with malts and alcohol moving through in slick fashion. The roast like flavor and richness of the beer I really like, especially for >again-a really cheap ass looking beer. WolfsBlood84 (103), Indianapolis, Indiana, USA May 4, 2008 12 oz. CAN - Acquired from Dark Lord Day Haul. Pours a jet black oil with large tan head. Aroma of Malt, chocolate, hops, and alcohol. Taste is thick chocolate, burnt malts, coffee, cream, etc. Pretty damn good, especially considering it came from a can. KieferUGA (461), Atlanta, Georgia, USA May 4, 2008 12 oz. can. Thick, viscous pour. Pitch black color with medium sized, dark brown head. Aroma of chocolate, roasted coffee, licorice. Creamy body, with roasted notes that take over. Flavor is delicious. Goes down smooth with a lingering hop bitterness. Heaven in a can! french tickler (642), Aylmer, Quebec, Canada May 4, 2008 Motor oil like poor with a thick very frothy brown head... good lacing as well. Aromas of tones of chocolate, star anise, lactose, roasted malts, hints of coffee... Thick creamy, velvetty, oily, full bodied. Very nice overall mouthfeel, long lasting bitter and sweetness. Very high IBU for sure. Added flavors of licorice roasted coffee beans. Impressive for a canned Impy... Beerman6686 (1266), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA May 4, 2008 POured a jet black with a dark tan head. Aroma of lots of chocolate, some coffee and roasted malts. Flavor is also very chocolatey with some hints of coffee and hops. very thick and chewy, up there with expedition imho. Bhops (329), Dallas, Texas, USA May 3, 2008 Pours black with dark tan head. Head is not huge but it sticks aorund. Roasted malt/sweet chocolate aroma hits you in the face. I can smell this beer from across the room. You can smell the alcohol too. tastes like a dessert liquor, rich and creamy with chocolate and coffee notes. Nice hoppy bite becomes apparent at the end.
